I was out at the cemetery earlier today, there were 9 floral “saddles” blown up against the south fence. I didn’t know where they belonged, so I just tried to match the colors with other flowers. Please check on your flowers, and don’t assume someone took them, if they’ve been moved.

I did not take as many photos as I normally do this year on Decoration Day... some of the church service and a few in the cemetery afterwards. The cemetery looked beautiful with a great mowing job and the graves decorated with new flowers. We had good attendance for the church service. Many shared memories: we had scripture reading through testimony and responsive readings; the congregation singing was wonderful; and the special music blessed everyone.
We would like to give a special thank you to those who serve on the Salem Cemetery Committee. They serve without pay and do many jobs to keep the cemetery and church in good condition. Please consider giving a donation to help with expenses (mowing, insurance, electric bills, and supplies for needed repairs).
If anyone has additional pictures from this year, feel free to put them in the comments.
We look forward to seeing an even larger crowd next year on the third Sunday of May!

Salem Cemetery Decoration Day is this coming Sunday, May 18. (It is always the third Sunday of May) Please come out and remember your loved ones as you decorate their graves. We do plan to have a church service on that day at 11 am.
Pictured below is some of William and Mary Tougaw's family. Below that is another generation of this same family. The cemetery decoration tradition is important in family history. It is an important tradition to teach our children and grandchildren!
(More pictures showing the passing on of Salem Cemetery Decoration Day family tradition is encouraged! Just place in comments.)
Please consider financially supporting the maintenance and upkeep of the Salem Cemetery and property. The cemetery committee and mowing crew do an outstanding job of caring for the cemetery property and church building. It costs a good deal to keep the property maintained in such a good condition.

The annual cleanup of the Salem Cemetery will be held on Saturday, May 3. Please bring suitable tools and equipment for this cleanup event. It takes cooperation and teamwork to maintain our rural cemeteries in the area. We ask that families who have loved ones buried at Salem help out on that day. There is not a particular start time for the cleanup; just try to be there by 8:00 to 9:00 am. The more volunteers we have, the sooner we’ll finish. In the event of rain, the cleanup will be postponed until the next Saturday, May 10.
Decoration Day, as always, will be the third Sunday of May – this year being May 18. Please come out and remember your loved ones as you decorate their graves. We do plan to have a church service on that day at 11 am.

This is a photo of the Salem School which was located across the Salem Road from the existing church house. The picture was made circa 1900. The two girls identified are Cora Irene Peeler on the right (Jim Tom Pelt's grandmother) and her sister Dora Peeler White. If you can identify any of the others please let us know.

We had a great day for Salem Decoration yesterday. (Salem Decoration is always on the third Sunday of May.) It was warm out in the sunny areas, but the shade was really nice, and there was a little breeze blowing. We were missing a few of our "regulars" in the church service, but still had around 45 in attendance. If you were one of those who missed, we hope to see you next year!!!
Here are a few pictures of our day. (I didn't get as many in the cemetery as normal... mainly because of my statement about being warm in the sunny areas.)
Thank you to all who work to keep this wonderful tradition going and passing it on to our future generations!
Also, a special thank you to our cemetery committee! The cemetery looked great!
As always, donations are appreciated and NEEDED to keep Salem Cemetery going!!!

We had a wonderful Decoration Sunday on May 21. The weather was perfect! It was good to see friends and family decorating the graves, remembering their loved ones, visiting with each other, carrying on this important tradition.
The church service was enjoyed by all with a good crowd in attendance. Someone counted 50 in the church service.
Paige was there to continue her tradition of ringing the bell. This year she enlisted Jackson to help her.
There were some that normally attend who were unable to this year. You were missed.
We thank the cemetery committee for their work on the upkeep and maintenance of the cemetery and church.
We look forward to seeing everyone again next year!
God be with you 'til we meet again!
