The First Congregational Church of Plainfield CT

The First Congregational Church of Plainfield CT Our Church invites everyone to come and share our Christian faith, to meet together for worship and fellowship. Sunday worship service at 10am.

We invite everyone to come and share our Christian faith. We meet together to worship and encourage each other
in our journey closer to our God and to each other. Our hope is to help prepare each one for the day when we meet Jesus face-to-face and hear Him say,

"Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!' (Matthew 25:23) ·

I have a little sermon about healing:
Just as people came to Jesus seeking healing, so do we. We still seek healing. Whether it is physical or emotional healing, or repair of a social problem, we still look for a cure.
But is all healing instantaneous, as it was in Jesus’ miracles? I think many of the things that happened miraculously and immediately in Jesus’ presence, will happen to us over time, and in the afterlife.
Some of it can happen here and now, if we get a changed attitude, and stronger faith. It is a kind of healing when we break a bad habit, or break out of a rut.
But some of our healing will happen in the afterlife, where every tear will be dried, and all damage will be repaired. Some of the healing cannot happen until we receive our new spiritual bodies, over there.
But God wants us to make REAL spiritual progress, both here and there.
We are never wrong to seek Jesus’ help. But we might be wrong to think that only miracles can help us. God has a PLAN for our growth, but he is not in a hurry. He helps as quickly as we are able to RECEIVE the help. “When you search for me, you will find me” (Jer 29:13).

A lesson from Sunday: In the Treasure in the Field and the Pearl of Great Price parables, people discover something they must have. They recognize something of value, and they go for it wholeheartedly. They sell all they have in order to get it. Obtaining great “treasure” might mean having to “sell all that you have,” that is, change your comfortable routine. Your spiritual vision, your confidence that you are loved, are what keep you steady through times of change. It takes a bit of already-possessed treasure, to get the new treasure.

Change my heart, O God, make it ever true.
Change my heart , O God, may I be like you.
