When people are tired, overloaded, or carrying weeks of stress, it becomes easier to react to each other instead of slowing down long enough to understand what is actually going on.

Sometimes a conversation goes sideways simply because both people are running low on patience. Sometimes someone gets quiet because they are mentally done for the day, not because they are pulling away from the relationship.

Giving each other a little more room in those moments matters. Not every bad interaction needs to become a bigger conversation that same night.

A little awareness goes a long way when stress has been building for a while.

Today is Peace Officers Memorial Day.

In 1962, President Kennedy signed the proclamation for Peace Officers Memorial Day and National Police Week. It's dedicated to remembering the law enforcement officers who gave their lives in the line of duty, and to honor the families, friends, and departments left behind.

National Police Week is a time set aside to honor the men and women who have given their lives in the line of duty, while also recognizing the service and sacrifice of those still serving today.

Here in Southwest Florida, we’re thankful for the businesses and communities that take time to support and encourage law enforcement families during this week.

Free coffee and a pastry as a simple act of appreciation matters. It reminds officers that people see them, value them, and are grateful for what they carry every day.

Stress usually shows up long before people realize how much it has been building.

Less patience. More distraction. Shorter conversations. Small things feel heavier than they normally would.

Stress that builds over time rarely stays in one area of life.

It starts to show up in conversations, patience, and how people respond to each other at home. Things that normally would not feel like a big deal can start to feel heavier after enough long shifts, interrupted sleep, and mentally full days.

Sometimes one person notices the change first. The other may just feel tired, quieter than usual, or more easily irritated without fully realizing how much stress has been building in the background.

That kind of stress is easy to overlook because it usually builds slowly. But over time, it can change the tone of a relationship if there is no space to slow down and reset.
