CATHOLICS & CLIMATE CHANGE

A year after Pope Francis released his encyclical on the environment, Laudato Si’, Catholic adults in the United States are generally more likely to be concerned about climate change than other Christians according to a new survey conducted by CARA.

Catholics are also more likely than other adults to believe they have a moral responsibility to personally do what they can to combat climate change according to results from the poll conducted May 16 and May 26, 2016.

"That's what we must pray for, each of us: a new heart. Not a heart of stone, but a heart open to the fears and hopes and challenges of our fellow citizens. That's what we've seen in Dallas these past few days. That's what we must sustain."

During the workshop, participants will learn: How to shift conflicts by listening for underlying values of opposing parties, how to navigate the world with self-reflection upon one's rank and privilege, how to reconnect to energy for social change, in spite of personal and societal challenges and feelings of burn out, how to mediate personal conflicts using Restorative Questions.

Nutritious snacks will be provided each day; please pack your own lunch.

"Today in many places we hear a call for greater security. But until exclusion and inequality in society and between peoples are reversed, it will be impossible to eliminate violence."

Sharing a prayer that Ruth Marchetti at Catholic Family Center offered in her weekly Salt & Light newsletter:

UNITED TOGETHER: PRAYER AFTER ORLANDO

Christ, who wept over a city,
We are in deepest despair,
As we weep over the dead and injured in Orlando.
In anguish, we recognize the blood stains of hatred, We hear the sounds of fear, the echoes of gun shots--
Once again, once again.

Christ, who came to bring us peace,
We turn to you in overwhelming sorrow.
How can we end this nightmare of violence,
How can we build a world of inclusion, of solidarity? Give us the grace to reflect deeply
And to work ceaselessly to heal the hearts,
To stop the guns, to cherish all God's children.

Christ, who endured violent suffering to bring us Light,
We pray for the dead, may they rest in peace.
We pray for the wounded, may they find healing. We pray for our nation, may we end the hate.
We pray for our global family, may we learn we are one. Amen.
