The Vigil will include:
• Vespers (Evening Prayer)
• An Extended Liturgy of the Word

A Visible Sign of Our Sacred Music

In recent weeks, you may have noticed Daniel and Evan serving in cassock and surplice during our liturgies. This traditional attire is more than simply a change in appearance. It is a visible sign of the sacred role that music plays in the worship of God. The cassock and surplice have long been associated with those who assist in the liturgy, helping to remind us that every aspect of the Mass is set apart for a holy purpose.

By wearing these vestments, our music ministers more clearly reflect their role as servants of the liturgy. It is not about drawing attention to the individual, but rather about directing our hearts and minds toward the beauty, reverence, and prayer of the Mass. Sacred music is not a performance. It is prayer, and these garments help express that truth outwardly.

In that same spirit, we are excited to share that all of our parish choirs will soon be receiving choir robes. This is a joyful step forward in continuing to deepen the reverence and unity of our music ministry.

These changes carry several meaningful reminders for us all:

Unity in Ministry: Just as our voices come together as one, so too does a common attire reflect our shared mission.

Focus on Worship: Vesture helps shift attention away from the individual and toward the sacred action of the liturgy.

A Sign of Reverence: Beauty in our worship through music, environment, and attire, honors the presence of Christ among us.

An Invitation to Participation: Seeing the care given to our liturgy encourages each of us to enter more fully and prayerfully into the Mass.

We are grateful for the dedication of all our music ministers who give of their time and talent each week. As these visible signs develop, may they inspire all of us to lift our hearts in song and deepen our love for the Lord in the sacred liturgy.

Thank you to all who joined us for Tenebrae: A Service of Shadows this evening. Your presence made this sacred liturgy a powerful witness of faith, reflection, and communal prayer as we continue our journey through Holy Week.

The stones placed before the cross carried profound meaning. Inspired by Jewish burial customs, where stones are left at a grave as a sign of remembrance, permanence, and reverence, these rocks became for us a tangible act of prayer. Each stone represented not only our remembrance of Christ’s death, but also something deeply personal: our burdens, our sins, our griefs, and the silent intentions we carry in our hearts.

By placing these stones at the foot of the cross, we entrusted those burdens to the Lord. In that simple yet profound gesture, we were reminded that we do not carry these weights alone. Christ, in His Passion, receives them, redeems them, and transforms them.

As we left in silence, with the final candle hidden and the church in darkness, we carried with us the quiet hope that even in the deepest night, the light of Christ is not extinguished. It waits—just beyond the silence—ready to break forth in the glory of the Resurrection.

Thank you again for being part of this sacred prayer. May the grace of this Tenebrae service remain with you throughout these holy days, drawing you ever closer to the mystery of Christ’s love.
