The orchestra sounded absolutely beautiful at our Fauré Requiem dress rehearsal today! Unfortunately, your local social media admin was too busy conducting to remember to take any pictures or videos. You'll just have to come tomorrow at 2:30 and see!

Very excited to announce the next concert in our new series, Fauré's Requiem. One of the most moving choral works ever written, the Requiem will feature the Southminster Chancel Choir, guest soloists, and a professional chamber orchestra. Fauré's shorter works Tantum ergo and Cantique de Jean Racine are also featured on the program. Free admission, reception to follow. This will be a very special concert - don't miss it.

A preview of our Halloween organ concert on Sunday: Music Director Lucas Barkley plays the last section of the mighty Toccata from Böellmann's Suite gothique on the Southminster organ. Come hear the rest of the piece along with other organ favorites, and learn a little about the organ, on Sunday at 2:30. Halloween costumes welcome, reception to follow.

Announcing the next event in our new Concerts at Southminster series: Music Director Lucas Barkley will present an all-ages program of organ pieces, including Halloween favorites, and talk a little bit about the music and the instrument itself. Admission is free and there will be a reception in the parlor after the recital. Hope to see you there!

The repertoire for our inaugural concert this upcoming Sunday includes three very different twentieth-century song cycles by three great American composers:

Songs About Spring by Dominick Argento (1955), five songs to springtime poetry by E. E. Cummings

Six Poems by Emily Dickinson by John Duke (1978), beautifully melodic settings of one of the greatest American poets

Hermit Songs by Samuel Barber (1954), a unique series of settings of marginalia from medieval manuscripts, including the famous "The Monk and His Cat"

Excited to announce a new concert series, Concerts at Southminster! Our first performance will be Sunday, October 5 at 2:30 p.m. Soprano Sarah Richards, a frequent recitalist in the Pittsburgh area, will join Southminster music director Lucas Barkley in a program of English-language art songs. Free admission.
