Spiritways CUUPs

Spiritways CUUPs An open CUUPs Chapter located at Sunnyhill The Unitarian Universalist Church of the South Hills. So Mote It Be.

A vibrant, loving, and supportive group, Spiritways CUUPS is dedicated to the principles of Unitarian Universalism. We gather together in sympathy and accordance with our values and draw on the many ritual-based expressions of our Pagan spirituality. We at Spiritways CUUPs covenant upon these 4 guiding principles:

We affirm the inherent worth and dignity of every person, to include all genders,

ethnicities, races, sexualities and spiritual paths. Within our circle, we acknowledge the personal names and pronouns by which people wish to be known. We remember that you are your own spiritual authority rooted in community. We engage in consent culture and therefore ask before touching people or their property. We honor the time and space that have been given to us by arriving no earlier than 30 minutes before ritual start time and no later than 15 minutes after the designated start time. We honor sacred space by leaving our baggage and phones at the door and by remaining in sacred space until ritual completion.

The Wheel has turned full circle, and after 20 years, Spiritways CUUPs is officially retired. Our group name may remain on the main CUUPS.org page for a while until it's removed, but we are no longer an active group. If you have any questions, you can message me through this page. I ask for your patience as it may take me a while to get back to you.

All Blessings Bright and Bold, here's to new beginnings!

Merry Meet! Spiritways WILL be holding a Samhain ritual on Sunday, November 5, 2023 @ 7pm at Sunnyhill! Samhain, meaning "Summer's End," is a Gaelic holiday, marking the third and final harvest festival of the year. By now, the last of the fields have been gathered. The leaves, bereft of gold and fire, lie at our feet, as we watch the Wheel of the Year creep towards the dark and cold. It is also a time to honor our Ancestors, Those Who Came Before Us--our Beloved Dead--and celebrate their memory. Join us as we gather to remember our loved ones, speak their names, and tell their stories, so that we may remember them. We are their connection to the future, downline.

As you know, our dear friend and co-leader for Spiritways, Carolyn Cory, passed through the veil and began the next leg of her journey earlier in the year. We would like to pay a special tribute to her during this ritual as well.

Spiritways Business:
Recently, Spiritways has received inquiries on returning to a regularly active group. Running an open CUUPs group requires a dedicated group of individuals to lead, help out, and attend.

If you are interested in finding out more about how you can get involved, please attend the kickoff meeting from 6:00pm – 6:30pm prior to Ritual. This will assist us with how Spiritways will move forward.

Ritual:
Ritual begins at 7pm at Sunnyhill. Feel free to bring a picture or memento of someone Who has Gone Before for the Ancestor altar.

As this is a high holiday, attendees are asked to wear black.

Food and drink contributions to β€œCakes and Ale” are always welcome for our fellowship after the ritual. If you have special dietary needs, feel free to bring something for yourself.

If you are only attending the ritual and not the kickoff meeting, please arrive no earlier than 30 minutes prior to the stated start time and no later than 5 minutes after the stated start time. Due to the powerful quality of rituals, children 12 and older only, please. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

With deep sadness, we share the passing of Carolyn Corry. It was earlier this morning she joined the Ancestors. She lived her life un-apologetically, followed her spirituality passionately, and led Spiritways proudly.

Hail, The Traveler! Blessings to Carolyn on the next leg of her journey. In the coming weeks we will share information on a memorial service and celebration of her life.

Mourning Moon of November

Venerating the dead is an important part of the grieving process across many cultures worldwide. Fall festivals like Samhain in the Gaelic tradition, Day of the Dead in the Mexican tradition, the Hungry Ghost Festival in the Buddhist tradition, or Chuseok in the Korean tradition allow us to honour what has passed with reverence and respect, in order to lay it to rest.

Journal Practice for the Mourning Moon

What parts of your past have not been laid to rest? What endings or losses are still haunting you? What do you still need to grieve?
