Light of the Age - Rabat - Nur Az Zamaan

Light of the Age - Rabat - Nur Az Zamaan Mosque in Pittsburgh's historic North Side neighborhood Muhammad al-Yaqoubi, Sh. Salek, Imam Zaid Shakir, and others.

The "Light of the Age Rabat" was founded in August 2004 By our Shayhk Abu Alfa Muhammad Shareef bin Fareed and the Late Sultan Al Hajj Abu Bakr (Rahim Allah) as a religious and educational institution for the sole purpose of preserving Islamic scholarship and spiritual practices particularly the teachings of Islam in West Africa. Our main focus is reviving the Teachings of the Prophet Muhammad pea

ce and blessings be upon him as it was taught by the Great West African Reviver Shayhk Uthman Dan Fodio also Known as Nur Uz Zamaan(Rahim Allah). Since then, the Rabat has helped facilitate the needs of the Muslim community within, and, outside the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania through the establishment of daily and congregational prayers, Islamic studies circles, and the maintenance of the "Sankore Institute of Islamic African studies public research library." Members of the Jamaat have also been involved in ongoing projects, both locally and nationally, whose aim is to develop sustainable communities through social outreach, coalition building, civic engagement, and the arts. As a religious institution, The Light of the Age Rabat seeks to embody the universal tenets of Al-Islam as exemplified by all of the Prophets and messengers-including Moses, Jesus and Muhammad (Peace be Upon them All). We further believe that the Prophetic model provides us with a standard for human conduct that liberates the soul while giving us refuge against the spiritual and social ills that affect us all. The Light of the Age Mosque aims to establish the first waqf, or Islamic endowment, in the Pittsburgh area. By purchasing rental property, the masjid will be fully and perpetually supported by the rental income of the building, thereby eliminating the need for any further fundraising efforts in the future, inshaaAllah. The Light of the Age Masjid is at the center of Islamic scholarship in the city of Pittsburgh, and has hosted such notable scholars as our Shayhk Abu Alfa Muhammad Shareef, Sh.
