From now until Christmas, we’re celebrating Advent. During this season, we remember Jesus’ first coming at Christmas, rejoice in His presence in our lives today, and look forward to the day He will return!

As part of this celebration, members of our church family are sharing their thoughts and stories about the Christmas season. Today, let’s hear from Lauren and Josh R!

Q: What is a time you experienced joy in your walk with Christ? How does the Christmas season bring joy to you?

Lauren: I think the greatest joy (or rather, *joys*) in my walk with Christ are the moments when I can see the big picture of all the events or things that have happened to get to where God has led me to be. It’s a beautiful gift to realize all the incredible work God has dedicated specifically to you, to get you from one point to another, so you can reach the point of his intended destination for you in that season. 😊

Josh: I experience joy in my walk with Christ through peaceful morning prayer and consistent God winks throughout the week that help me stay on the right path for His will. Christmas amplifies joy for me, as it encourages everyone to share their happiness and faith more openly, uplifting us all.

As part of this celebration, members of our church family are sharing their thoughts and stories about the Christmas season. Today, let’s hear from Samantha C!

Q: When we are young, we often look forward to the Christmas season because of the gifts we’ll receive. What present did you really want as a kid? How has your ā€œwishlistā€ changed since then? What gifts (tangible or intangible) has the Lord given you?

A: As a child, I was fascinated with outer space. I loved learning about the stars and planets and thought how amazing it would be if I had a telescope. So I asked for one and thought it was a long shot, but my amazing parents bought me an amateur telescope.

As I’ve grown older, childhood gifts like a telescope have been replaced with practical gifts like jumper cables and a tool set, all thanks again to my mom and dad. While these things aren’t as epic as a telescope, the gifts I’ve received have kind of grown up with me and met my adult needs, since things break and car batteries seem to die at the worst times.

Epicness and practicality aside, gifts are fun to receive because the people who give them always have the best intent. Shoutout to my parents for keeping it real over the years and giving me things I enjoy and things that help me succeed on my own.

Q: What is your favorite food to make (or eat) around the holidays? What is special about it?

A: We love to eat Brittany’s family’s recipe: scalloped potatoes. They only make them twice a year because it’s pretty much a heart attack in a pan. 🤣🤣 But it’s soo delicious!
