Vagabond Missions

Vagabond Missions missionaries inviting teens into a relationship with Christ and His Church, since 2007.

VM IS 100% FAITHFUL TO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH AND ITS TEACHINGS.

• We believe that every person deserves Christ. Failure to bring Him to the marginalized, or in this case urban America, is failure on the part of the Church.

• We believe that urban outreach happens most effectively in the midst of community.

• We believe in a holistic approach to ministry, and so we will empower youth with the res

ources to develop faith, character, knowledge, and life skills.

• We believe in developing catechetical structures appropriate to the context in which we serve.

• We believe in raising up young people who will remain in urban communities as pastoral leaders.

• We believe in calling youth to Sainthood.

• We believe that greatest intimacy with Christ is found in the Sacramental life of the Church.

“What are the numbers?”

Often times ministry gets watered down to numbers. Metrics are good and they keep you accountable but the temptation can be to forget about the person.

In ministry you are working with real people who live real lives. Let us not forget that.

“I want to serve in my own city.”

Mother Teresa said “go find your Calcutta.” And that rings so true.

In your own city, your backyard, there are young people who are forgotten and living in poverty.

Matt, a Pittsburgh missionary from PA, shares this sentiment. To read more of his reflection visit our “Glory Stories” tab on our website! The link is also in our bio!

You really take one another’s when we embody compassion.

Compassion is not convenient. It’s time, sharing life, and being known.

In our recent YouTube video, Lauren Alley shares about her time on mission and how compassion really was the heart of her ministry.

Can discipleship be comfortable?

Before our God ascends into heaven, He leaves us this command: “Go and make disciples of all nations.”

All nations isn't just those already in the pews, in the suburbs, or your online followers.

All nations includes immigrants and refugees.
All nations includes war-torn families.
All nations includes the imprisoned.
All nations includes our forgotten youth.
All nations includes gang members.
All nations includes politicians.

First, we reflect: Am I a disciple?
Has this journey been a comfortable one?
An easy one?

How can I expect someone else to make a quick leap and be done? Discipleship is work. It takes time and sacrifice. It would be easy to preach one sermon and have everyone get baptized right then and there—and praise God, that is the reality sometimes. But more often than not, that isn’t the case.

“Go and make disciples” isn’t a comfortable command. Jesus takes it a step further and says, “of all nations.” That’s even more uncomfortable. I can’t pick and choose who is a part of “all nations.”

Where is God calling you to be a little more uncomfortable?
Who is a part of “all nations” that is hard for you?

Will you support an opportunity for our missionaries to gather together, deepen faith, and renew zeal for our mission with a gift of $50?

What does it mean to live in Christian community?

The Church offers us an example in Acts 2 -
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer … All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”

This example is what we model our staff retreats after and we want you to be a part of it!

This coming June, we will be meeting for a retreat in the beautiful Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania! Through daily holy hours, worship, veteran missionary talks, and fun activities we receive formation and grow in fellowship.
