Last Sunday, in his initial sermon, Brother Jeff Taylor challenged us to activate our faith using the model of the centurion in Luke 7. This message speaks directly to all generations and all people—reminding us that faith isn’t passive, it’s lived out daily.
The centurion shows us three powerful characteristics of active faith:
1. The Practice of Compassion
The centurion cared deeply for his servant. He saw a need and responded with compassion, even crossing cultural and social boundaries to help. Our faith should move us to care, to show up, and to make a difference in the lives of others.
2. The Posture of Humility
Though he was a man of authority, the centurion humbled himself before Christ. He understood that position doesn’t equal worthiness. His example reminds us that we don’t have to have it all together to come to God.
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith… it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Humility keeps us grounded and dependent on God—not ourselves. Those who bear much fruit bow the lowest.
3. The Presence of Confidence
The centurion believed in Jesus’ authority without needing to see proof. “Just say the word.” That kind of faith trusts God’s power even when we can’t physically see Him.
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1).
The Challenge for us as Believers and Followers of Christ:
• Show compassion to someone in need
• Choose humility in your words and actions
• Trust God—even when you can’t see what He’s doing
Let’s be a people that doesn’t just talk about faith—but lives it. Activate your faith. Live with purpose. Make an impact.
