✨ Sacred Tradition, Devotions, Dogma… What’s the Difference?

As we begin exploring CFM’s Traditions: Sacred and Secular program, we’re invited to look more closely at something we may not always stop to consider: What do we really mean by “tradition”?

One important distinction from this year’s guide:
“Sacred Traditions should not be confused with devotions.”

Sacred Tradition is part of how the faith handed down from the Apostles continues to be transmitted through the Church. Devotions—such as the Rosary, novenas, pilgrimages and Eucharistic Adoration—can enrich our spiritual lives, but they are not the same as Sacred Tradition.

Understanding the difference can help us better appreciate the beautiful ways our Catholic faith has been handed on from generation to generation. ❤️

Sunday Evening Reflection
As the weekend winds down and a new week begins, today’s readings invite us to pause and ask:
Am I carrying what God is asking of me—or only what the world expects of me?

Following Jesus is not always easy, but He never asks us to walk alone. This week, may we have the courage to let God renew our hearts, guide our choices, and help us take the next faithful step.

Jesus, I trust in You. Please grant through Your mother’s intercession that I may always bring Your hope into my family.

Jesus, I trust in You. Please grant through Your mother’s intercession that I may always bring Your love into my family.

Jesus, I trust in You. Please grant through Your mother’s intercession that I may always bring Your mercy into my family.

Our Lady, on this feast of your birth, please pray for stronger and holier marriages.

Amen.

Most lovable Mother Mary, our Father in Heaven created you with delight. You are His creature whom He made worthy to become the holy Mother of His Son. You were born into a family of Saints. Pray for me today that my joy in your Son will increase and that my family may become more holy.

Dearest Mother, please pray for me and for these my intentions…

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 August Parenting Pointer
“We are responsible for the process we use in parenting, not the outcome.”
As parents, we do our best to guide, teach, encourage, and love our children. But ultimately, they have free will and must choose their own paths.
We can guide. We can pray. We can remain faithful and loving. But we cannot control every choice or outcome.
🙏 Sometimes, when words and guidance seem to fall short, the most important thing we can do is place our children in God’s hands and pray.
May we trust God with our children, especially in the moments when parenting requires us to let go.
