It’s always a beautiful thing to see Homewood come together! 💙

Today’s 3rd Annual Homewood Island Block Party is another reminder of the energy, pride, partnerships and people that make this community so special.

A huge shoutout to Amber Sloan and Vernard Alexander, and all of the community leaders, organizations, vendors and volunteers who continue to pour into Homewood and make events like this possible.

And a special thank you to Councilman Khari Mosley for his continued support and commitment to Homewood and the people who call it home.

Homewood is especially close to our hearts because it is also home to the Destiny Dream Center, where we are blessed to serve, connect and invest in the community.

If you haven’t stopped by Homewood Island yet, there’s still time to come out and enjoy the community today!

Homewood is moving, growing and thriving—and we’re grateful to be a part of it. 💙

You may not walk the same after you’ve wrestled with God. 🙌🏾🔥

Jacob went into the encounter one way…and came out changed.

Pastor Michael Smith called it:

A limp of love.
A limp of grace.
A limp of mercy.
A limp of transformation.

Sometimes what you carry after the struggle isn’t evidence that God abandoned you. It may be evidence that God met you there and changed you there.

You may walk differently.
Think differently.
Talk differently.
Live differently.

Because a real encounter with God should leave something different in us.

🔥 This is just a piece of today’s Word at Destiny.

Ever notice how easy it is to find somebody else to blame? 👀

Apparently, we’ve been doing it since Genesis.

God asks Adam what happened and Adam’s response is basically:

“The woman YOU gave me…”

One finger toward Eve.
Another one toward God.

Then God asks Eve—and she points to the serpent.

Everybody had an explanation.
Everybody had somebody to blame.

But Pastor Michael Smith brought the question right back to us:

What happens when we stop pointing outward and start taking responsibility for our own decisions?

Yesterday we heard:
“You cannot change what you refuse to own.”

Today, Pastor takes us back to the Garden and shows us where the blame game began.

🔥 This teaching will make you check which direction your own fingers are pointing.

You cannot change what you refuse to own.

We can point to what happened to us.
Who wasn’t there.
Who hurt us.
What we didn’t have.
What somebody else should have done differently.

And some of those things are very real.

But at some point, if we want something in us to change, we have to be willing to look at us.

Pastor Michael Smith put it another way Sunday:

We don’t want to just be grown people.

We want to be GROWING people. 🌱

Growing means I’m still willing to let God show me where I need to change, my habits, my actions, my thinking and my decisions.

Because:

“You cannot change what you refuse to own.”

And…

“Responsibility begins when excuses end.” 🔥

Whew. That’s a Word that makes you look in the mirror.

You can get a suntan under the S-U-N…but what happens when your soul spends some time under the S-O-N? ☀️🙌🏾

Pastor Michael Smith had us laughing today, but there was a WORD underneath it.

Solomon described what life becomes when we live “under the sun”—apart from God’s purpose and direction.

But Pastor challenged us to think about what happens when we live under the SON.

The S-U-N may give you vitamin D…

But the S-O-N gives you “Vitamin Deliverance.” 🔥🙌🏾

And here’s the best part: Pittsburgh may not give us sunshine all year 😂, but the SON shines January through December.

This morning Pastor began a new teaching on how to live a full, fulfilled life—a life filled with meaning, purpose, joy, peace and faith.

🔥 This is just a piece of today’s Word.

What if the famine isn’t stopping your growth…what if it’s where God is growing you? 🌱

Pastor Michael Smith reminded us that Jesus said we would be known by our fruit.

But fruit has to mature.

Love isn’t really tested when everybody loves you.
Peace isn’t really tested when everything is peaceful.
Self-control doesn’t develop when there’s nothing to control.
And long-suffering can’t be produced if we never have to suffer long.

That’s why Pastor said:

“Real fruit needs water. Spiritual fruit needs a famine.”

Sometimes we’re asking God to remove the very situation He’s using to mature something in us.

Your storm doesn’t automatically mean you’re in the wrong place.

Sometimes God is developing the love, joy, peace, patience, perseverance and character you’ll need for where He’s taking you next.

🔥 Take a minute and hear this Word.

Your situation changed. God didn’t. 🙏🏾

John the Baptist once looked at Jesus and knew who He was. But later, from a prison cell, John sent his disciples to ask Jesus, “Are you the one…or should we expect someone else?”

Jesus hadn’t changed.

John’s circumstances had.

And sometimes our circumstances can make us question what we knew about God before the storm came.

When life was sunny, we knew He was good.
When the prayer was answered, we knew He was faithful.
When things were going our way, we knew He was God.

But what about when sunny becomes rainy?
Healthy becomes sick?
Prosperity becomes poverty?

As Pastor Michael Smith reminds us: Don’t allow your circumstances to confuse you about who God is.

🔥 Take a minute and hear this Word.
