What is True Love?
The dictionary describes love as a very strong warm feeling or deep concern for someone. And to feel passion or a strong affection for someone or something. That is the way the world looks at love. We hear it out of peope all the time. Like "I love my car." But God's love is true love. And it is not ment for things. God gave us things to enjoy and people to love. God is love. And to truely love is a command. The bible commands us to love everyone. It is not a choice. It is not well maybe I will if I feel like it or I will if they are good to me. Love, true love, doesn't work that way. Lets take a look at what the bible says true love, God's love, is. Love in the Amplified Bible is defined in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. "Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily. It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God's love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong]. It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail. Love bears up under anythin and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening]. Love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or cmes to an end]."
Now go back and replace the word "love" with the word "God", because we know according to 1 John 4:8 that God is love, and reread it. This is the love God has for every person on this planet. And it is that love for all of us that sent Jesus to the cross to save us. In light of His love for us lets look at our part. We are to love others like He loves us. Notice I didn't say "loved", past tense, but "loves" because His love never ends. And because He loves us He wants the best for us and to give it to us. The way we get that is by walking in love with everyone. When we get out of love and into strife we open the door to the enemy to come in and steal and kill and destroy our lives (John 10:10). So take a stand today to walk in love and close the door to the devil in your life.
