The LORD is My Shepherd, I Shall Not Want

“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.”–Psalm 23:1

We ought to bear in mind that our happiness consists in this: God's hand is stretched forth to govern us, we live under His shadow, and His providence keeps watch over our welfare.

Even if we have an abundance of material possessions, true happiness eludes us unless God chooses to count us as part of His flock.

It should be noted that God is only a Shepherd to those who, recognizing their helplessness and frailty, acknowledge their need for His care, willingly enter His sheepfold, and submit to His rule.

Those who enjoy the greatest abundance of outward goods are empty and famished without God as their shepherd. It is beyond doubt that those under His charge shall not lack a full abundance of all good things.
