Six Members of Peace United Methodist Church, Pipestone, MN, Travel to Raymond, SD, to Collaborate with Solar Oven Partners

This week, six dedicated members from Peace United Methodist Church journeyed to Raymond, SD, to serve two days with Solar Oven Partners. Their mission focused on fabricating oven components for solar ovens, a vital resource that promotes sustainable living and energy independence for communities with limited access to traditional cooking methods.

Driven by their commitment to helping those in need, the team enthusiastically engaged in various stages of the assembly process. Over the course of two days, the participants—Nancy and Jeff Terry, Shelley and Mark Wiese, and Tom and Joan Walker—achieved remarkable results: Manufactured and packaged 395 bread pans, assembled 175 reflector packs, deburred and packaged 520 covers, hole-punched many metal J-channel pieces needed for oven assembly, filled 15 equipment bags, including an oven thermometer, a set of measuring cups and spoons, and a WaPi used for water pasteurization, packed 49 complete boxes, ready for shipment. The group also brought along 31 Potholders and 40 large utensil pouches that were sewn at home before the mission trip.

Together, these six passionate mission volunteers collaborated with Solar Oven Partners site coordinators, Gene and Wanda Bethke, who are dedicated local farmers from Raymond, SD, committed to assisting those in need. They were also fortunate to meet the new SOP Director, Randy Harwood.
