Jephthah lays out his case to the Ammonites for why the land belongs to Israel, calling out their god, Chemosh, in the process and giving glory to the true God. Ammon, being driven by spiritual forces against Israel and God, refuses to listen to reason. Jephthah swears an offering to God if he is given the victory. God then gives Jephthah a major victory over them, only for Jephthah to receive a strong reminder against rash oaths.

Here we see two judges very quickly and then we meet Japhtheth, a rather tragic judge and also a mini picture of Christ in that he would eventually be their savior, yet they rejected him.
