Catastrophic flash flooding in Nepal has devastated communities and swept away homes, businesses, and vital infrastructure. Public reports now indicate that nearly 400 people have died, with more than 1,300 still missing, and the numbers continue to rise as rescue teams reach areas that had been cut off.
With roads washed out and communication lines down, word from our church family has been hard to receive. In our first update, we were grateful to share that our leaders and churches in the mountain communities had been spared the worst, and for many, we praise God that this is still true. But as more reports reach us, we are learning that others in our family have not been spared. Some of our leaders are carrying deep losses in their own families, homes, and congregations, even as they care for those around them. To protect those on the ground and the families involved, we are withholding names and details.
Please pray:
For those still missing, and for their safe recovery.
For families waiting anxiously for news of loved ones.
For our pastors and leaders as they care for the hurting while grieving their own.
For rescue workers searching extraordinarily difficult terrain.
For shelter, food, medical care, and protection for all who have been displaced.
For the Lord to draw near, bringing mercy, comfort, and peace.
"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you." (Isaiah 43:2)
Our Free Methodist family is hurting. Please join us in prayer, asking God to meet these communities with His presence and hope.
