4:10 the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying: 11 “You are worthy, O Lord,
To receive glory and honor and power;
For You created all things,
And by Your will they exist and were created.”

Verse 11 helps us with the action of the 24 Elders casting their crowns before Jesus. What is that about? Why are they doing that? Verse 11 begins with “You are worthy. . .” The impression is that the 24 Elders feel that only Jesus is worthy of honor. They don’t feel worthy to receive crowns and therefore cast them at His feet. You Lord Jesus are “worthy of glory, honor, and power.” What a scene of worship. No wonder the band “Casting Crowns” has one of the best Christian names of all performing groups. I’ve preached about the moment that Jesus gives us a crown or says, “well done.” I have said on many of those occasions, “You live your life for that moment.” That’s what life is about. Living to hear Him say, “Well done!”

Devo: Revelation 4:10 the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying:

Most people involved with any contemporary Christian worship are familiar with the band “Casting Crowns.” No doubt, they get their name from our Text. This verse helps us figure out the time frame of the Judgement Seat. Believers will be judged at the Judgement Seat, not for their salvation but for their works. Inheritance and reward will be the issue at this judgement or the lack thereof which is also a possibility. I’ve always said the best way to think of this is to hear Jesus say, “What did you do with that life I gave you?” The Judgement Seat will follow the rapture and predate the Tribulation Period. How do I know that? Our Text provides the answer. The 24 Elders have crowns; crowns they no doubt have received at the Judgement Seat where they heard, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” The 7 sealed judgements mark the beginning of the Tribulation Period which starts in Chapter 5 of Revelation. Mystery solved. The Judgment Seat falls between the rapture of the church and the Tribulation Period.

Happy Birthday, Mom. My mother would’ve been 86 today. I celebrate her birthday rather than her date of death. She led me to Jesus. It’s really going to be cool to see her again.

Devo: Revelation 4:10 the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying:

The 24 elders and their identification is important in the understanding of Revelation. Some have said that they are angels, but in Revelation 5:9 makes it pretty clear that these are believers. They have been redeemed from all the nations and all the tribes. Angels are not redeemed and angels are not of earth as in nations and tribes. These are the redeemed of God. The elders may be representatives of mankind. They could be the 12 tribes of Israel and the 12 apostles representing the Old and New Testaments. Some of conjectured that they might be over each of the 24 time zones, evenly dividing the world’s power. The 24 elders represent all of the believers of all the ages. They worship the Lord Jesus in Heaven here in Revelation 4.

Devo: Revelation 4:8 The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying:

“Holy, holy, holy,
Lord God Almighty,
Who was and is and is to come!”

Holy in the Bible means different, different in a special way, a spiritual way, a Godly way. One of the ways to understand “holy” is to understand the opposite. Things that are not holy fall into two categories, common, or profane. Common things are neutral; they are neither holy nor unholy. Common clothes, common dishes in Old Testament times, common things period are not holy to be revered nor are they unholy or sinister in any way. Profane things on the other hand would be wicked, evil, or bad. Profanity is bad speech, swear words, or cussing. Profane can be a verb or a noun. When one profanes something he makes it dirty or unclean. Holiness in our setting, the worship scene in Heaven makes it the most special of all settings. God is holy; Heaven is holy; everything about it is holy.

“Holy, holy, holy,

As you can imagine, the Text that depicts worship in Heaven has inspired many songs and lyrics. Listen to 3rd Day’s Agnus Dei:
Alleluia, Holy
Holy are You Lord God Almighty
Worthy is the Lamb, Worthy is the Lamb, You are Holy,
Holy Are You Lord God Almighty
Worthy is the Lamb, Worthy is the Lamb, You are Holy

Holy are You Lord God Almighty
Worthy is the Lamb
Worthy is the Lamb
You are Holy

You are Holy, You are Holy, You are Holy

Again, hear the lyrics of “God of Wonders,” by Third Day:

And God of wonders beyond our galaxy
You are holy, holy
The universe declares Your majesty
You are holy, holy
Lord of heaven and earth
Lord of heaven and earth

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee.
Holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

These three and many others were inspired by our Text.
