Today, UU President Rev. Sofรญa Betancourt, PhD joins faith leaders across traditions in releasing an interfaith statement proclaiming:

Transgender, intersex, and nonbinary people are holy, whole, and worthy of love and protection.

Together, we call out the misuse of religion to justify harm and lift up our shared moral responsibility to protect the dignity, safety, and sacred worth of all people.

๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ Yesterday the Supreme Court decided to remove gender markers from passport applications, today theyโ€™re debating marriage equality.

๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€โšง๏ธ Godโ€™s creation is not up for debate, nor is disembodying our God given right to be who we were created to be.

๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ 'God saw everything they had made, and indeed, it was very good.' (Genesis 1:31)

๐Ÿ’œ Loving our neighbor has never been more important and on display as now."

๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ God who is She, They, Ze, He, and beyond many names, let this be our prayer:

We will not be silent.
We will not be violent.
We will love.
We will defend Black lives.
We will affirm LGBTQIA+ lives.
We will protect the vulnerable.
We will show up when it is hard.
We will demand justice when the world refuses.
We will organize, teach, march, feed, shelter, vote, heal, build community.
We will reflect critically, think rigorously, and act courageously.

And that love, radical and unrelenting, will change the world. Amen

Across the nation today, people are gathering in peaceful protest, affirming that no leader or system stands above accountability. As followers of Christ, we remember that our faith calls us to love mercy, seek justice, and walk humbly with God.

We pray for our nation: for those who lead, for those who protest, and for those who feel unheard. May we always be guided by the truth that no human power is ultimate, and that every person is created with sacred worth.

Last night a federal judge ordered the shutdown of Alligator Alcatraz. This is a clear victory for justice and human dignity. A facility that sought to detain and dehumanize immigrants will now be dismantled.

What is striking is not only the outcome but the path that led us here. The case was decided on environmental grounds rather than civil rights. While it is troubling that the law was quicker to defend wetlands than vulnerable people, the result remains a decisive step forward.

We celebrate this moment as a triumph over cruelty and a reminder that justice can prevail, even in unexpected ways. As the United Church of Christ in Florida, we affirm that every person is created in the image of God, deserving of respect, compassion, and freedom. Last nightโ€™s ruling ensures that fewer lives will be subjected to harm, and that is a victory worth lifting up.

Today we honor Juneteenth, aka Freedom Day.
On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally received word that they were free.

Juneteenth reminds us that freedom delayed is still injustice and that the work of liberation is ongoing. As people of faith, we believe that every person is created in the image of God and deserving of dignity, justice, and equity.

Let today be a time of remembrance and rededication, to lift up Black voices, challenge systemic racism, and live out Christโ€™s call to love boldly and act justly.
