Congregational Church of Pinehurst, UCC

Congregational Church of Pinehurst, UCC The Congregational Church of Pinehurst, UCC, an official Open and Affirming congregation

The UCC was founded in 1957 as the union of several different Christian traditions: from the beginning of our history, we were a church that affirmed the ideal that Christians did not always have to agree to live together in communion. Our motto—"that they may all be one"—is Jesus' prayer for the unity of the church. The UCC is one of the most diverse Christian churches in the United States.

Having a Good Laugh
Genesis 18:1-15
There are "Abrahams" and "Sarahs" who need to hear from God and God's people. These are people who have accepted hopelessness as normal. God's Good News came to Abraham and Sarah, not in a state of receptive hopefulness, but in a state of resistant hopelessness.

A Place in the Road
Matthew 9:18-26

This is a Communion Sunday. You are invited to this Table if you need to approach or want to approach. If you long for an encounter with grace, if you long for some form of healing, if you desire to find spiritual sustenance from communion with the Divine and with this faith community. You are invited.

It is also Pride Sunday. Nobody, likes big b***y celebration that I do, but before we celebrate, we must lament a bit and reaffirm our advocacy as a Congregation.

Let us not falter in these moments. If we love even one LGBTQ human being; we must consider them when we engage the democratic process, we must consider them when we choose between silence and speaking out, and we must consider them when we set our mission priorities.

Were he still among us, today would have been Bob Hoffman's 90th birthday. I just wanted to share that with those of you who knew and loved him. I'm sure Judy and their daughter Kim would welcome your prayers. Ron

Trinity Turned Loose
Matthew 28:16-20

If we had all day, I would spend most of that day on my fascination with the first couple verses of this passage. Matthew appears to be intentional in terms of creating a certain picture of the kind of people Jesus was choosing to Commission to carry on the work he had begun. He was about to ascend to heaven and he needed somebody to continue his work.

The fallibility and brokenness of this group he was commissioning is apparent from the very first words of the text. And yet, he calls and commissions them nonetheless.

Sunday Spotlight!

Knowing It When We See It
Numbers 11:24-30

Pentecost Sunday is a reminder that when God's people are gathered, surprising happenings can emerge. In other words, we might show up at church and experience somthing... unexpected.

This "sermone excerpt" is less an excerpt and more of an invitation to show up and witness something new. It will be a wonderfully memorable service.

Trust me on this one....
