What Does It Really Mean to Pray? Tomorrow, Sunday, September 6, we begin the Global Week of Prayer, and KUMC is honored to join this worldwide movement calling people everywhere to draw closer to God through prayer. Our worship message is “Draw Near to God Through Prayer,” based on Hebrews 4:14–16. But what does it really mean to pray, and how do we do it? Tomorrow, we will go deeper into the meaning of prayer and explore how we can pray in a way that truly draws us closer to God. Tomorrow is Communion Sunday. If you are joining us online, please have your elements ready.

Global Week of Prayer is Coming! From Sunday, September 6 through Sunday, September 13, Christians around the world will come together for the Global Week of 24-7 Prayer, a week of united, continuous prayer declaring that Jesus is Lord over every nation, city, and community. Last year, churches and prayer communities in 140 nations participated, and more than 1,800 prayer rooms are already registered for this year.

KUMC is one of the churches that has signed up to be part of this global movement!

One simple way to participate is through Lectio 365, a free daily prayer app offering morning, midday, and evening Scripture-based devotionals to help us pause, pray, and connect with God throughout the day. More than 330,000 people worldwide use it. Download Lectio 365 and join KUMC as we pray with believers worldwide.

What do you do when the winds are against you and the storm does not seem to be letting up? Join us tomorrow, Sunday, August 30, at 9:00 AM or 11:00 AM, in person or online, as we welcome our guest speaker, John Chenet, for a message based on Matthew 14:22–33. The disciples found themselves battling strong winds, wondering how they would make it through. Sometimes our own storms can leave us feeling just as overwhelmed. But something powerful happens when Jesus meets us in the middle of the storm.

Meet Our Guest Speaker: John Chenet

John was raised in both Roman Catholic and United Methodist churches in Lake Charles, Louisiana. After briefly attending seminary, he discovered his calling to work with young people and served as a youth director for 12 years. John served on the KUMC staff for six years and has remained an active, much-loved member of our church family since 2013. Over the years, he has served in numerous leadership roles, including chairing the Staff Parish Relations Committee and Leadership Council, and serving on several church committees. He has also taught our Koinonia adult Sunday School class for the past decade. Since 1994, John has taught English in Miami and currently teaches at Westminster Christian Middle School. John and his wife, Carol, have three children and two grandchildren. We are grateful to have John as part of our KUMC family and look forward to the message he will share with us this Sunday!
