The adversary(devil) uses people to carry out his missions/goals
John 10:10, the phrase "the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy" describes the devil's mission to rob people of joy, faith, and purpose, ultimately aiming to destroy their lives and relationship with God. However, this is contrasted with Jesus, who brings abundant life.
The Goal (The "Thief"): The devil seeks to cause havoc, stealing peace, destroying relationships, and killing spiritual, emotional, or physical life.
Tactics: As a master of deception and "father of lies," the enemy uses temptation, deception, and discouragement to hinder believers.
Counter-Message: John 10:10 concludes, "...I [Jesus] have come that they may have life, and have it to the full," promising victory over the destruction mentioned.
Response: Believers are encouraged to resist the enemy by standing firm in faith, using the Word of God, and submitting to God's authority, which causes the devil to flee.
The verse is a warning of spiritual warfare, highlighting that while the enemy targets, he does not have final authority.
There is a quiet kind of evil that doesn’t always shout…Sometimes, it sits on a throne.
In the story of Ahab, Jezebel, and Naboth, we don’t just see wickedness, we see how compromise, manipulation, and silence can work together to destroy what is righteous.
Naboth was not a king. He had no army, no influence, no power. All he had was integrity.
When King Ahab desired Naboth’s vineyard, it seemed like a simple request, just land, just a transaction, just a “reasonable offer.” But Naboth refused. Why? Because what Ahab saw as property, Naboth saw as inheritance. What Ahab treated lightly, Naboth held as sacred before God. And that refusal… cost him everything.
Ahab sulked in his palace, not because he was denied something he needed, but because he couldn’t control someone who feared God more than man. And then came Jezebel.
Where Ahab was weak, Jezebel was ruthless. Where Ahab pouted, Jezebel plotted. She didn’t just want the vineyard, she wanted control, power, and the removal of anything that stood in the way.
So she orchestrated lies. She weaponized false witnesses. She dressed injustice in the garments of legality. And Naboth… was silenced. Stoned. Forgotten. Buried under the weight of a lie. All for a vineyard. But Heaven was not silent.
God saw what happened in secret. He heard the injustice no one defended. He marked the blood that cried out from the ground. And He sent a word: “What have you done?”
Because God is not indifferent to injustice. He is not blind to quiet corruption. He is not passive when the righteous are crushed by the powerful.
Ahab got the vineyard…but lost his peace. Jezebel kept her control…but sealed her judgment. Because in God’s kingdom, no injustice goes unanswered. This story isn’t just about ancient kings.
It’s about the condition of our hearts today.
How often do we act like Ahab, wanting what isn’t ours, justifying desire as entitlement? How often do we tolerate the spirit of Jezebel, manipulation, control, intimidation, because it gets results?
And how often are we called to be like Naboth, to stand firm, even when it costs us everything?
Naboth lost his life…but he did not lose his righteousness. Ahab gained land…but forfeited his legacy. Jezebel held power…but could not escape judgment.
So today, ask yourself: What do you do when doing what is right costs you something?
Do you compromise to keep comfort? Manipulate to gain control? Or stand firm, trusting that God sees: even when the world doesn’t?
Because at the end of it all, it is better to lose everything and keep your soul than to gain a vineyard and lose your standing before God ❤️🔥
