l Lutheran Church in Pine Island and volunteers from area churches first sponsored a family mission trip to Baja, Mexico in 2008. The group has continued to send mission teams to Vicente Guerrero, Baja, Mexico to build homes and volunteer at a local orphanage every third year since. Because of this ministry and the acts of love and support by so many from this community, the "Baja Builders" as they affectionately call themselves have funded and constructed homes for 15 families, a 3 room school, and a small medical clinic since their first trip. In addition, they have provided food and staples for countless families, purchased uniforms so children were able to attend school, given financial support to an orphanage and women's shelter, and funded a school basketball/soccer court. The needs are great in this area of Baja, Mexico. The October 2020 mission trip was postponed due to the pandemic, but the mission team is rebooting and scheduled to make the trip March 19-26, 2022. The team has lofty goals of building 3 houses in one week and additional help would be welcome! Don't know how to build? No problem -- there is plenty for everyone to do and everyone's skills and abilities are put to good use. One hundred percent of the proceeds raised from this auction will be used to purchase building materials and other supplies to build 3 homes and provide other critical needs to the people in Baja. Mission team members personally pay all of their own travel expenses. Most of the people who live in this area of the Baja are farm workers, and many families live in makeshift houses made from tarps, cardboard or tin. Things like food, clothing, housing and medical care can never be taken for granted, as most families live day by day on what they are able to earn working in the fields. It takes many hands to do God’s work. You may not be traveling to Baja, but you can make a difference! Your support and contributions to this auction will deliver countless blessings to many in Mexico.
