Pat Davis of the Jefferson County Civitan Club presents Rev. Alfred Carroll, Sr., Founder of Alfred Carroll Ministries with a Certificate of Appreciation in observance of Clergy Appreciation Week, (the third week in February). Civitan officials sited Rev. Carroll's activism in the community, education (Benchmark Public Awareness Campaign) and No Child Left Behind Evangelistic Outreach; four days of events encouraging youth to be “Academically Proficient and Spiritually Saved .”
Clergy Appreciation Week was inspired by an event which occurred during World War II when four chaplains stripped off their own lifejackets and forced them upon young frightened soldiers that were on a sinking ship (U.S.A.T Dorchester). 672 soldiers including the four chaplains died in this attack.
Rev. Carroll says that he was very surprised when contacted by Civitan members and is very appreciative of the recognition.
