Dr. Dominique Thomas did a wonderful job bringing our “Hymns of the Church” sermon series to a powerful conclusion with “O How I Love Jesus.” from 1 John 4:19-21

He reminded us that our love for Jesus is more than a song we sing. It is our grateful response to the One who loved us first, saved us by His grace, and continues to keep us each day.

What a blessed and fitting conclusion to an inspiring sermon series!

This morning at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, Pastor Wilson preached “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” from John 15:13-15.

We considered how some friendships changed when life became difficult, loyalty became inconvenient, or love required sacrifice.

Yet we were reminded that Jesus did not abandon us when the cost became great. He loved us all the way to the cross.

We saw that friendship with Jesus was demonstrated through His sacrifice, developed through obedience, and deepened through revelation from God.

May we never merely sing about the Friend we have in Jesus. May we live like people whose lives have been changed by His friendship.!

On Yeaterday, Pastor Wilson opened the first installment of our Hymns of the Church sermon series with a powerful message entitled “Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior” from Mark 10:46-52.

Through the story of blind Bartimaeus, Pastor Wilson reminded us that God’s mercy is greater than your limitation.

Bartimaeus could not see Jesus, but when he heard that Jesus was passing by, he refused to remain silent.

Even when the crowd tried to quiet him, he cried out even louder, “Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.”

Pastor Wilson challenged us through three powerful truths:
Faith Responds Deliberately
Faith Responds Passionately
Faith Responds Faithfully

What a way to begin this series. The hymns we have sung for generations are more than songs from our past. They are testimonies of biblical truth that still speak to our lives today.

Our prayer throughout this series is that we will not only remember the hymns, but rediscover the Scripture, theology, faith, and hope behind the words we sing.

While on others, Thou art calling, please don't pass me by!

This past Sunday, Pastor Wilson preached from
Psalm 73 and we were reminded that serving the Lord will pay off.

Asaph struggled with a question many believers have asked: Why do the wicked seem to prosper while the faithful face difficulties? Through his frustration, pain, and eventual peace, God revealed a powerful truth that still speaks to us today.

Our sermon sentence declared:

“God allows you to experience frustrations so you can see His faithfulness.”

As we examined the Problem of Asaph, the Pain of Asaph, and the Peace of Asaph, we were challenged to trust God even when life does not seem fair.

What appears to be a setback may actually be an opportunity for God to reveal His faithfulness in a greater way.

Today we honor the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, mentors, and father figures who have helped shape our lives through their love, sacrifice, and steadfast presence.

A father’s influence often extends far beyond what words can express. Through long hours of work, quiet acts of service, wise counsel, and unwavering support, fathers help build strong families and stronger communities. They teach us responsibility, perseverance, integrity, and faith. They encourage us when we are discouraged, correct us when we stray, and celebrate us when we succeed.

We also recognize those who carry the role of a father through mentoring, coaching, teaching, and loving children who may not be their own. Your investment in the lives of others reflects the heart of our Heavenly Father.

As we celebrate Father’s Day, may every father be reminded that he is valued, appreciated, and loved. May God continue to strengthen you, guide you, and bless you as you leave a legacy of faith, hope, and love.
