Grace Episcopal Church & Gardens Mt. Meigs

Grace Episcopal Church & Gardens Mt. Meigs An Episcopal Parish in Pike Road, Alabama The church buildings and gardens, however, reflect the paradox of a country church in the middle of town.

Nestled for over a century in the picturesque farming community on the outskirts of Montgomery, Grace Church now stands in the center of the eastern sprawl of the city, surrounded by neighborhoods and shopping centers, and easily accessible by Interstate Highway 85. The land surrounding the church property remains partly undeveloped, and our newly-constructed Parish House was designed to complement the original worship space built in the early nineteenth century.

Last Thursday Priest Sarah gave the keynote address at One Place Family Justice Center's interfaith prayer service for survivors of sexual assault, drawing from the story of S***m. Arm in arm, community and faith leaders committed to walking together - to go together to continue the work.
“How great is the outcry again S***m and Gomorrah,… I must go down and see,” God says. Well, friends, now it is our turn.
How great the outcry against sexual violence in our cities and towns could be. How great the indignation, the repugnance, the grief if we were able to say aloud to ourselves and one another the statistics of how prevalent r**e and abuse are in our own neighborhoods. How great the outcry – could we be the first to take time each year to refuse to let our neighbors forget that something terrible happens here? And we are not okay with that. We must go. We must go to where the violence is happening and say no more. We must go to where the legislation is happening and say no more. We must go to where the funding is happening and say, everything it takes. We must go to those who have survived, emerged with power, and say we’re here. We will walk alongside you until you are ready to lead us. We must go to those who haven’t survived, who haven’t emerged unscathed, and say we’re sorry, we are culpable. Systems of sexualized violence prevail and we allow it. We must go to those who catch us and carry us, to places like One Place and roll up our sleeves and say let me help you carry the load. It is heavy and it’s on all of us, not just you. How great is the outcry and we must go."

This Easter season, join us in the gardens for Stations of the Resurrection. Come at your own time and use the stations to pray, to reflect, to grow as our gardens grow.

I got a text yesterday that said:

I just walked through the Stations of the Resurrection. Thank you so much for putting those out there; it is beautiful and truly formative!

Stations of the Resurrection isn’t a common journey, but as I said to someone this morning, “Stations of the Cross is important and I’m glad we do it, but Jesus didn’t stay on the cross, so we can’t leave him there!” I adapted this journey a bit from the Roman Catholic one, but this Stations of the Resurrections remains an opportunity for reflection and devotion tracking Jesus’ journey from Resurrection to Pentecost. Similar to the Stations of the Cross, this practice focuses on joy and redemption, moving from the empty tomb to appearances, the Ascension, and the descent of the Holy Spirit.

I do hope you’ll take some time during this Easter season for the spiritual formation the stations offer - and I’d love to hear what they bring up for you! All of you know, I’m always open to coffee, but meeting up for coffee with y’all makes it even better.
