We want to spotlight our amazing students here at UVF and all their hard work!

🌟 Meet Annabelle Gabsi!🌟

Annabelle did an internship at a church in NJ called Life Gate AG. She spoke about her time as their youth director over summer, "I realized how important it is to invest in people's lives for the kingdom of God, especially youth. I discovered a passion for youth students and to see them grow in Christ." Annabelle, a senior at UVF, gives advice to those looking for internships, "Remember to let the Lord guide your steps - He will show you where to go and the place that will help you grow, even if the job seems unconventional"

Happy Forge Friday UVF! This month's alum in Joshua Lehman ('07). "All the world's a stage"

My name is Joshua Lehman and I graduated with my Bachelor’s in Vocal Music Performance from UVF in 2007. For the last decade I've been blessed to be a working professional actor in TV, film, and theatre. My professional career began at Sight & Sound Theatres in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in their production of JOSEPH in 2011. I worked with Blue Gate Musicals for five seasons and starred in eight shows across all three of their venues, playing characters ranging from the quirky mailman to a distinguished Amish gentleman. At Prather Productions’ Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre and Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre I was privileged to perform some of the greatest Musical Theatre roles, starring as Alfred P. Doolittle in MY FAIR LADY and Jean Shepherd in A CHRISTMAS STORY. I returned to Sight & Sound in 2019 as the Apostle Philip in JESUS and Elder Levi in the world premiere of QUEEN ESTHER.

I've also been cast in a wide range of TV and video projects. I made my film debut in 2016 with "Carry Me Home: A Remember America Film" (now streaming on Amazon Prime) and recently starred in "An Invasion at Dinner" with Gravitywell Films. Most recently, I was featured on HBO's award winning TV series SUCCESSION.

I recently came out about my struggles with anxiety and depression, and have used my platform as an actor to advocate for mental health awareness.

At UVF I co-founded the drama club Curtain Call and performed in and produced several plays. UVF was the perfect starting point for my career. My experiences leading and performing with Curtain Call, learning from the faculty, my internship in Cape Cod, and in Broadway actor Larry Wayne Morbit’s masterclass nurtured me artistically, musically, spiritually, and relationally to become the successful professional I am today. The business is rewarding, but challenging and frustrating at times. UVF prepared me for that journey.

My advice to young voice majors at UVF with their eyes set on a career as a professional actor and singer would be:

1) Focus on your faith, especially in the tough times.
2) Prioritize your mental and emotional health, always.
3) Get involved.

Everyone benefits from public speaking, storytelling, and communication skills. Theatre will help with that. Explore and expand your skill set and get out of your comfort zone. It will make you a better leader in the church and in the world.

“I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.” ― Oscar Wilde

Happy Summer UVF! I hope everyone is relaxing, and enjoying their time off. It’s Forge Friday again! This week’s alumni is David Brock. “Hi, my name is Dave Brock. I graduated in 2013 with a BA in Children’s Ministry and 2020 with a MA in Organizational Leadership. Recently my family and I moved to Trumbull County, OH, where I serve at Rock of Grace Family Ministries as the Executive Pastor. I am also serving as a campus pastor at our campus in Cortland, OH. Valley Forge has helped prepare me for this season of ministry through the combination of ministry training to be a pastor and develop the business and leadership skills to oversee a multi-site organization. Being a member of Chosen 2010 and 2011 has helped me learn how to work with others who work and think differently than I do while still working together for the kingdom of God.

Additionally, serving on LIGHT Children’s Ministry at UVF allowed me to develop leadership skills I otherwise would have missed if I did not get involved as a student. I am grateful for the years I spent at Valley Forge in person and online. The relationships I have developed during my schooling have encouraged me to reach for new challenges and step into the future with a loose grip knowing that God leads my life.

To current and future students:
The secret to an experience that grows you like this is to get involved in every way possible. Your time at Valley Forge will only be as good as you allow it to be, so make it the best it possibly can!”

It's Forge Friday! This week's alumni is Sydnee Tooman Betts class of '82. "The University of Valley Forge (VFCC, while I attended in 1977-1982) laid an excellent foundation for my role as an author. How? My professors ingrained in me three key elements.

Extensive written assignments developed my love for research and a knack for expressing what I intended to say. They also awakened in me a love for the craft.

The solid theological grounding I received allows me to portray God and His ways accurately to my readers. Just as God used Nathan’s story to elucidate David’s blindness, a novel allows readers to reflect on their heart-responses as they journey alongside the protagonist.

Lastly, my professors taught me to listen to the Holy Spirit. I never envisioned imagined myself as a writer or thought I could complete such exhaustive works; yet it while I prayed for a way to ‘make disciples of all nations,’ novel writing was God’s answer. Had I not learned to listen for the Holy Spirit’s leading, I would certainly have missed that call."

Hello all its Forge Friday and I would like to introduce Jamie Zirkle. “My name is Jamie Zirkle and I am the Lead Pastor of Valley Assembly of God located in Middletown, Va. I first arrived at The Forge in August of 1995 as a 24-year-old college freshmen with a calling from God but no earthly idea of how that plan would come to fruition. I started by packing my car, leaving my friends, my family and all that was familiar and made my way up to the PA Turnpike. I joined the Valley Forge Soccer team where I would play all four years and eventually become team captain. My fondest memories from my time at The Forge were not in the classroom but with people. From Building 24, Building 23, the soccer field, The Pit (gymnasium), Solomon's Porch, TD Alfredo's, and a few other places it was all about RELATIONSHIPS!

My current church position happened by divine appointment. I did not seek a position but I sought the God who promotes and opens/closes doors. I received a phone call from a Potomac Ministry Network official, and a friend, who asked me if I was interested. A few months later I arrived here. My family and I have had ministry stops in DE, WV and VA and all of those stops taught me something. The Forge taught me valuable lessons in leadership, prayer, perseverance, lifelong friendships and most importantly how to lead on and into God in the good and bad times. I almost quit after my third year because of some very challenging personal events that had taken place in my life. Thankfully, I was very fortunate to have great friends, teammates and leaders such as Dr. Brubaker, Dr. Dippold, Dr. Marino, Dr. McNaughton, and President Meyer.

My advice to each of you reading this in whatever phase of life you are in is to PRAY simply, WAIT sometimes and STICK to the path. Don't ever give up!”

Welcome back to Forge Friday this week I would like to introduce alumni Brandon Mullen.
Hello students of UVF, my name is Brandon Mullen and I am an Alumni of UVF (“08”). I studied Music and majored in Music Performance (Percussion). After graduating, I’ve been blessed to work and travel the world with many artists in different genres as a professional drummer.

Currently I’ve been working on different projects (studio and live) as a drummer for artist's albums, Live performances and shows, church live streams and more recently TV and film. UVF has really been a big part of preparing me for this Career. I’ve gained a lot of knowledge from all the music teachers and staff which gave me the motivation and the urge to prepare myself to the best of my abilities for this journey. I appreciate and love them all. To the current students of UVF, I would like to leave you with some encouraging advice which is to stay focused on your goal and dreams, keep positive, work hard, stay humble and continue to pray. Q&A Tuesday! You’re probably not eager to talk about conflicts you’ve had at work during a job interview. But if you’re asked directly, don’t pretend you’ve never had one. Be honest about a difficult situation you’ve faced (but without going into the kind of detail you’d share venting to a friend). “Most people who ask are only looking for evidence that you’re willing to face these kinds of issues head-on and make a sincere attempt at coming to a resolution,” former recruiter Richard Moy says. Stay calm and professional as you tell the story (and answer any follow-up questions), spend more time talking about the resolution than the conflict, and mention what you’d do differently next time to show “you’re open to learning from tough experiences.”

It's Forge Friday! I would like to introduce Kody Vagle class of '15. "My name is Kody Vagle. I am a graduate of the University of Valley Forge, class of ’15, an ordained minister within the Assemblies of God, and now I am the Youth Pastor of Mountaintop Church in Hackettstown, NJ. Every week we reach out to about 40 students from Hackettstown and Mt. Olive, NJ with the gospel of Jesus Christ. My wife Jaime Vagle (also a UVF grad, class of ’15) is on staff here as well. She oversees the Children’s Ministry here at Mountaintop, as well as all of the media and graphic design work. While we were still students and just dating at Valley Forge, we dreamed of working on staff at a church together, and we are so thankful that God answered that prayer with Mountaintop Church.

Simply put, we would not be here were it not for the education, preparation, and connections that the University of Valley Forge provided us. My wife and I both had amazing mentor figures in some of the professors there at the time (shoutout to Professors Melanie Bridgens and Mark MacLean, respectively) who went above and beyond their duties as professor and really took us under their wings. We received a quality education that we are now putting into practice every day here at our church. Beyond that, a good friend of ours, Pastor Carrie Brooks (formerly the Professor of Youth Ministries), was the one who connected me with Mountaintop Church in the first place. All of that to say, we would not be where we are today without the University of Valley Forge.

I would love to give a little bit of advice to current UVF students. First, don’t get so wrapped up in the work at Bible college that you forget why you’re there; God has a divine calling on your life, and UVF is the first step in that journey. Your Bible is not a just textbook to get through Old Testament Survey; it’s God’s 66-book love letter to you. Never forget that. And second, enjoy your time there. Push yourself, don’t ever settle for just good enough, but still make sure you cherish this time, because you’ll miss it later in life, trust me. God has you here for a reason, so trust Him and get everything out of it that you possibly can!"

It's Q&A Tuesday! With mock interviews tomorrow make sure you are prepared for this question. What your interviewer is really trying to do with this question—beyond identifying any major red flags—is to gauge your self-awareness and honesty. So, “I can’t meet a deadline to save my life” is not an option—but neither is “Nothing! I’m perfect!” Strike a balance by thinking of something that you struggle with but that you’re working to improve. For example, maybe you’ve never been strong at public speaking, but you’ve recently volunteered to run meetings to help you get more comfortable when addressing a crowd
