ASP Day 5 – Finish Line! 🛠️❤️

“They say all good things must come to an end,” and as our week at ASP comes to a close, we’re reminded that while this chapter is ending, the impact will continue long after we’ve headed home.

The work is complete! The siding is finished, the deck is ready to welcome family and friends, and we now have a clear understanding of the difference between a J-channel and a P-channel—knowledge we certainly didn’t have when we arrived!

But the greatest accomplishments of the week can’t be measured in boards, nails, or siding. Bags are packed, lessons have been learned, friendships have been formed, and faith has been strengthened. We arrived as volunteers ready to serve, and we leave having received far more than we could have imagined.

As Shakespeare wrote, “All’s well that ends well.” By God’s grace, it truly has. We are deeply grateful for the families who welcomed us, the ASP staff and leaders who guided us, and everyone who kept us in their prayers throughout the week.

Now it’s time to head home—with grateful hearts, tired hands, and memories that will last a lifetime.

ASP Day 4! 🏃‍♂️🛠️❤️

We’re almost at the finish line!

Anyone who has ever run a race knows that the final stretch can be the hardest. Your legs are tired, the finish line is finally in sight, and every step takes determination. But it’s also where you discover that you can do more than you thought possible.

That’s a little like today at ASP.

The porch is nearly complete! The stairs have been cut and installed, and the outside trim work is just about finished. What began as lumber and measurements is becoming a beautiful, welcoming space that a family will enjoy for years to come.

As the week has unfolded, we’ve learned that ASP is about much more than building a porch. It’s about building faith, character, friendships, and a deeper understanding of what it means to serve Christ by serving our neighbors.

At the end of the day, all of the volunteers gathered for a picnic, sharing stories, laughter, and good food. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate new friendships and relationships that have been formed throughout the week—reminding us that some of the strongest things built at ASP aren’t made of wood, but of community.

As we prepare for our final day of work, thank you for continuing to keep our teams, leaders, and the families we are serving in your prayers. We look forward to crossing the finish line together, grateful for all that God has accomplished in and through us.

ASP Day 3! 🛠️🏡

Another wonderful day of serving, learning, and growing together in Christ’s love.

The deck continues to come together! Today our team laid the decking and began setting the stairs, bringing the project one step closer to completion. It has been exciting to watch a pile of lumber become a place where a family will gather, rest, and make memories for years to come.

Meanwhile, our second team continued their careful work caulking the window trim, helping to make the home more secure, energy-efficient, and weather-resistant. Every detail matters when serving our neighbors with excellence and care.

After a full day of hard work, we enjoyed a delicious Kentucky meal together—a wonderful opportunity to rest, laugh, and reflect on the blessings of the day. Around the table, friendships continue to grow as we experience the joy of serving side by side.

Thank you for continuing to keep our youth, adult leaders, and the families we are serving in your prayers. We are grateful for God’s faithfulness each day as we seek to be His hands and feet in Harlan County.

While we're waiting for our youth to return from ASP, make sure to mark your calendar for this event from the Diocese.

Youth and their families are invited to the Washington Chapel at Valley Forge National Historical Park to share fellowship with dinner, nature walks, music and worship.

DATE & TIME: Sunday, August 30 from 4 p.m. to 6:30.

This event is for Jr. and Sr. Highschool kids. (Younger siblings and parents can come along if that makes sense for the families. We will have an elementary aged program for younger siblings.)

ASP Day 2! 🛠️🏡

The transformation continues!

Today, the deck is quickly taking shape, and great progress is made with trimming windows bringing the finishing touches to an important home project.

We youth are learning valuable construction skills from two outstanding leaders, Mark Hammaker and Dave Brennfleck. Their patience, expertise, and willingness to teach are helping build more than a deck—they’re helping build confidence, teamwork, and lifelong skills.

Every nail driven, every board measured, and every piece of trim installed is a reminder that we are called to serve with both our hands and our hearts. Thank you for your continued prayers for our teams, our leaders, and the families we are blessed to serve.

ASP Day One! 🛠️❤️

What a great start to the week!

Today, our teams got right to work in Harlan County. One group dug post holes and began framing what will, God willing, become a brand-new deck by Friday. (And yes… there was even a little dancing in the holes! 💃😄)

Meanwhile, our second team made great progress tackling an indoor home repair project, bringing hope and practical support to another family.

Thank you for your continued prayers for our youth and adult volunteers. Please pray for strength, safety, joyful hearts, and for the families we have the privilege of serving. We are grateful to be the hands and feet of Christ, one project—and one relationship—at a time.

This weekend, our Vestry gathered for a retreat at The Bridge .

We are grateful for the opportunity to step away from our busy schedules to listen to one another, strengthen our bonds, and prayerfully consider how God is calling us to serve this congregation and our wider community.
