I have a book coming out in 6 months entitled "The Missing Link: How the African American Church failed Black Men!" As Baby Boomers AME, MBC, COGIC, COG, didn't invest in Black Men as much as it did it's Black Women. We asked the Brothers for tithes and offering and not much else. We did not invest our time, our love, our apostolic assignment in these men as the Muslims did. We failed miserably. If we don't strategize to capture the Millennials our churches will have lost 4 generations in a row! How could we have been so blatant and maliciously short sighted in our leadership and organization?

WHY SO MANY BLACK MEN REJECT CHURCH!

The Prosperity Gospel has turned off many black men that see modern Christianity as a scam. Too often preachers are seen as "Pulpit Pimps" and not the SERVANT they used to be in the Black community. The other issue that turns off Black men is the hypocrisy of race relations in the church especially in America. I think Black men seeing Black pastors support a political party that at the same time endorses a President that is obviously racist is disturbing.

Most Black Pentecostal churches have one thing in common, NO MEN! I have heard black pastor’s talk about how much more cooperative women are than men are when leading them. I think this is an excuse to not have to deal with the strong personalities of men. Men are born to lead and deal with problems. Many pastors are insecure and don’t like having strong men in their churches, and that is why their churches are dying!

David led Israel primarily due to the fact that he had a forum of Mighty Men! In David’s later years he wrote a chapter of appreciation about the exploits of these men. No great leader can really be great without great MEN following them and also leading WITH them, Moses had Joshua to assist him, and Joshua was not weak or timid! He was a strong man of faith himself! Moses didn’t act intimidated by the fact that Joshua was a mighty man of God, Moses appreciated it!

The main reason the Nation of Islam is so appealing to Black men is that is speaks to what men appreciate…STRENGTH! Black pastors WAKE UP and realize you need strong men to HELP you lead! There are too many limp wristed weak men in our churches!

It is no wonder our sisters are facing a crisis in the area of finding a husband! A man must be discipled to not only grow in Christ, but grow as a leader in the body.

Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Paul wanted to remind Timothy to “not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord” (verse 8). Paul was encouraging his spiritual son to preach the gospel as well as to raise up disciples and leaders within the local churches he was entrusted to shepherd. Timothy had to use his spiritual and organizational gifts, keeping the fire of the empowering Holy Spirit lit within him.

With this in mind, here is how you can stir up your spiritual gifts as revealed in 2 Timothy 1 …

Remember to stir it up and use it (2 Tim. 1:6). Paul was reminding Timothy about what God has done in him, so you can think back to when and how He saved you and filled you with His Spirit, or when hands were laid on you and prophecies were spoken over you and then use your gift often and intentionally.
Share in the sufferings of the gospel (2 Tim. 1:8). Share the gospel with others, staying close to those in the apostolic office, staying with them through the good and bad of ministry, sharing in all things. It is the power of God that is prevalent through this.
Stay true to sound teaching (2 Tim. 1:13, 2:15). Study and listen to Scripture often as well as lessons from biblical teachers, getting intimately acquainted with the treasures within the Bible.
Guard your gift (2 Tim. 1:14). Paul told Timothy to “guard it,” which is not to use it haphazardly, but instead, to use it joyfully for its intended use. Treasure it, protect it, and walk humbly with it, all the while glorifying Jesus.
This is not an exhaustive list, but its truths are foundational when stirring up your spiritual gift. The purpose of these things is to glorify God and to encourage, edify and comfort His precious bride, the church. Stir up the gifts within you by the power of His Spirit!

Thursday Scripture Lesson
“GOD CHOSE YOU, and WE CHOSE HIM”

Before the world was made, before sin came in, God chose you to be with Him through all eternity.

Jesus said, “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you” (John 15:16 NKJV).

The question that comes to our minds is why? Why would God choose us? What goodness or merit did God see in us that He would choose us as His children? I hope you’re not disappointed by this, but the answer is there was no goodness. There was no merit. It is not even because we are lovable. The fact is that He chose us despite us.

In Ephesians 1 we read, “He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will” (verses 4–5 NKJV).

Why did God choose us? It’s the same reason that He chose the nation Israel. Speaking through His servant Moses, God said to Israel, “The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples; but because the Lord loves you” (Deuteronomy 7:7–8 NKJV). The Lord chose them because He loved them. And that’s why He chose us: because He loved us and loves us.

God chose us, but the Bible also tells us that we must choose Him. As Dwight L. Moody put it, the whosoever wills are the elect, and the whosoever won’ts are the non-elect.” God wants all to believe.
