North Village Baptist Church

We are in the midst of a union with Pella Communities Church. We have been preparing for this union for almost a year. We were made aware that change was coming, as Pastor Phil McKeown planned to retire from actively being the pastor of North Village and was seeking what God had next.

God introduced Pastor Phil to Pastor Sean at Pella and then to our elders as a possible divine plan for North Village Baptist Church. Our elders sought to discern God’s will in this relationship, and we began the process. Pastor Phil began a series entitled, “He’s Got This!” There has never been a doubt that God is orchestrating this relationship for His Glory and our good. His goal in this series was to help us understand what this union would be like.

We have now gone through some of the interaction with Pella and North Village. This past week Pella started the process of preparing our church facility to be used as a part of the vision God has given to them and therefore, to us.

Whenever God brings a person to faith He makes them a new creation. 2 Corinthians 2:15 says it this way, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” That verse can also be applied to God bringing about a new creation in regard to His church – our church.

Sunday, January 19, Pastor Sean Myers officially became our pastor, and we will become Pella Communities - Sunnyslope Mission. Worship service begins at 9:30 a.m.

Sunday, January 12, 2025 - Pastor Phil McKeown shared memories of his 41 years as our Pastor of North Village Baptist Church in the 10:45 a.m. service. There was an open microphone for those who wanted to share a memory. Following the service, we had a potluck luncheon in his honor. Pastor had some of his friends visiting who joined us for the luncheon, as well as the Guatemalans and families from Pella. Thanks for being a part of this important day!💜

Sunday, January 5, 2025, was Pastor Phil McKeown's last message as Pastor of North Village Baptist Church. He brought the last message in his series on “He’s Got This!” The message was “The
Transfiguration - A High Mountain.” Scripture: Luke 9:28-31

Christians have been known to say, “That was a spiritual mountain top experience.” For Peter, James and John that was absolutely true. God has always associated His presence with mountains. Last week we studied Mt. Sinai, the mountain of God. Jesus brought His great message called the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus paid our sin debt on Mt. Calvary. The approaching sacrifice on God’s Lamb set the provision of the Mount of Transfiguration. Alexander Bruce in his classic work, The Training of the Twelve, stated, “If you desire what follows, remember what went before.”

Sunday, December 29 - This Sunday Pastor Phil McKeown was back in his series on “He’s Got This!” The message was “The Mountain of Holiness - Mount Sinai.” Scripture: Exodus 33:17-23; Selected

Your relationship with the LORD is always a journey from your first encounter to the continuing eternal relationship. Because of your finite humanness, it is difficult for you to see His hand in your past that has brought you to where you are today. The LORD’S ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts. We have been on such a journey. You are not here by accident or coincidence. God has appointed you past, present, and future to experience His holiness. Sunday we will observe the similarities of our journey with the journey of Moses.

Another Christmas is upon us. As followers of Jesus, we want to keep our focus on the coming of our Savior while the world distracts us with its celebration of its holiday. No where did Jesus ever ask His followers to remember His birth, but He did instruct that they remember His sacrifice for their salvation. As part of that remembrance, we are called on to remember the gifts that Jesus gave to us. That is our calling today, the gifts that Jesus gives.

Sunday, 12/15/24 - Pastor Phil McKeown delivered a message on "The Mountain of Sanctuary - The Mount of Olives" from his series "He's Got This!" Scripture: Luke 21:37; Luke 22:39-46; Selected

In August of 2022 I had the privilege of visiting Israel and as part of that trip stand on the Mount of Olives. It was a surreal event knowing the part that place played in the life and death of Jesus Christ. The Mount of Olives is more than just an elevated place in the Moriah Mountain range on which Jerusalem sits. As you stand there and look toward Jerusalem you see the Old City of Jerusalem below and the Dome of the Rock which sits on the place where the new temple will sit. Let me describe more of what you would see.

Sunday, December 8 - Pastor Phil McKeown continued in his series of "He's Got This!" with the message “Mt. Gerizim - The Mountain of Worship.” Scripture: John 4:19-26, 28, 39-42

Have you ever asked, “What is God after? What does He want from me?” On Mt. Horeb God wanted Moses to know His plan for him. On Mt. Calvary God wanted Abraham to know He could be trusted to keep His promises. On the high mountain of the temptation, Jesus wanted us to know that His love for you was greater than all the kingdoms of the world. Now, God wants us to know He has called us to fulfill our purpose in life and that is to worship Him in spirit and in truth.

Sunday, December 1 - This Sunday’s message delivered by Pastor Phil McKeown was “The Mountain of Submission” from his series "He's Got This!" Scripture: Luke 4:1-13

So far, we have visited two mountains. Horeb was the mountain of “Holy Ground,” where God found Moses on the backside of desert and invited him into one of the great events in the lives of God’s chosen people. We visited two more mountains when God told Abraham to sacrifice his son, his only son, the son he loved on Mount Calvary. That mountain became our mountain of sacrifice. Today we will visit a mountain without a name but a mountain regardless. The mountain was a site for the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness. Ultimately, this mountain becomes our mountain of obedience.
