“And with many other words he (Peter) testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.” Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2‬:‭40‬-‭41‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Six weeks earlier, Peter had denied the Lord on the night of his crucifixion. After his resurrection, Jesus had restored Peter saying, “if you love me, feed my sheep.” For three years now Peter had been on a journey with Jesus and he’d had his ups and his downs, but Peter knew that Jesus was the Christ, and he kept stepping out onto the water and following Jesus into the unknown.

As he preached the gospel that day, 3000 people accepted Christ and because of his obedience, the world has been forever changed. Jesus is calling us on a journey, a journey to change the world.

Pentecost Sunday

“ it is impossible to understand the Bible or Christian living or the structure of the church without understanding something of the person and Work of the Holy Spirit”“. Billy Graham.

Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would come, and on Pentecost, the followers of Christ were baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit. However, I think so many Christians today are just completely out of touch with the Holy Spirit.

“Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

So often we turn to coping mechanisms and other thrills to fill the emptiness that haunts us, but the message of the scripture is that we were created for the the filling presence of the Holy Spirit. I believe God wants us to experience his presence through the Holy Spirit in ways that we often can’t even imagine, but to be filled with the spirit we have to allow God to empty us of everything else that we’ve been filling ourselves up with.

Today we celebrate the beautiful, powerful calling of motherhood — and God’s perfect plan for every mother’s heart.

Like a forest fire God often uses pain to cleanse and shape our lives.

Hebrews 2:18 Since He Himself has gone through suffering and testing, He is able to help us when we are tested.

“Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”” John‬ ‭21‬:‭16‬ ‭NIV‬‬

In the middle of the night, when Jesus was on trial, Peter had denied three times that he even knew Jesus. He swore up and down, “I do not know the man“. Once Peter had been so confident that he would never deny the Lord and now I’m sure Peter feels very humbled and guilty for cowering before a servant Girl and denying Jesus.

Perhaps Peter now felt that he was disqualified to be an apostle of Christ. However, Jesus does not dismiss him, Instead the Lord says take care of my sheep. Whatever happens or has happened in our past it’s Jesus‘s desire that we would be reconciled with him, and that we would be serving in our calling.
