Weather check indicates that Friday will be dry in the morning so the cleanup will take place beginning at 10am. Meet at the office (last cemetery road next to Sower's Market). We will be doing w**d eating, leaf collection and cleanup. If you have a gas-powered leaf blower or w**d eater, bring it along. Thanks in advance for your help.

Next Friday, Nov. 7 we will be having cleanup day at the Cemetery. We will be gathering leaves, picking up old flower arrangements, putting up lot markers for winter, etc. If you are interested, please join us at 10am for several hours of work. The forecast is for sunny conditions. Gas powered blowers are helpful if you have them. I am hoping to have some participation from PO students as well.

Our busy season at the cemetery is drawing to a close. At this moment, the cemetery looks amazing in every way. It was a struggle at times this summer as constant rains through much of June & July made it hard to catch up. With the dry August, mowing has become less frequent allowing for w**d eating to keep up. We can't thank especially Karl, S.T. and Freddy for their hard work and dedication. Financially we have been holding our own as we have sold some lots and have had more interments. We are developing a volunteer framework with POAHS allowing students to earn their public service hours at the cemetery. We want to thank all the folks who come and work on their own, especially whoever is trimming hedges. Your help is greatly appreciated. Anyone who is interested in volunteer work with the cemetery (outdoor or clerical, computer skills) can email [email protected].

Another Memorial Day weekend is here. Our Philipsburg Cemetery looks amazing for the weather this week. It is all the work of our dedicated staff, the support of the borough, and unknown volunteers. Please continue to support our efforts by donating or purchasing an AdmiredLife Online Memorial.

We are approaching the end of the year and continue to work toward the continuance of our cemetery. We were required this year to draw down another $20,000 from our care fund. Based on current trends, we will run out of money in 4-5 years without some type of intervention. We continue to work with Philipsburg Boro on long range solutions as well as continuing to solicit donations and encourage the purchase of AdmiredLife Online Memorials, a wonderful way for you to help the cemetery while honoring your family. Several dozen sites have already been purchased. The cemetery also wants to thank volunteers who have helped through the summer to provide some maintenance activities, most particularly those who have been pruning the shrubs. We will be holding a final seasonal cleanup of Philipsburg Cemetery on Friday, Nov. 8., 10-2. We hope to have some students from POAHS to help. The work will include removing the last of the leaves and other winterization activities. If you have a gas-powered leaf blower or a rake, bring them along. We will meet at the cemetery office at 10am. For additional info email the cemetery ([email protected]) or call 814-577-1994.

Saturday Sept. 14th is Founders Day. The Philipsburg Historical Foundation has added another AdmiredLife site for Jacob Steiner, a lumber magnate of the 19th century. Also, check the sites of other Philipsburg notables including Charles Rowland, Henry Warfel and Louis Chase. Your family also had notables. Please consider an AdmiredLife Online Memorial for members of your family. Please note that the Philipsburg Historical Museum will be open this Saturday from 10-4, as will the Simler House and the Union (Old Mud Church. There will also be events at Cold Stream in the afternoon. Join in the celebration of the history of our town.
