662-341-0084 The burning of Mt. Zion UMC led to the slaying of Michael Schwerner, Andrew Goodman and James Chaney. So here we stay."

The young men came to Philadelphia to meet with the beaten members and investigate the burning of the church. They were killed on their return trip to Meridian by members of the K*K. While the movie "Mississippi Burning" tells the story of the burning of the church and the slaying of Chaney, Goodman and Schwerner, Mt. Zion is committed to honoring the men's sacrifice. As we approach the 50th anniv

ersary of the events that led to the signing of the 1964 Civil Rights Bill by President Johnson. This bill gave the federal government authority to investigate and prosecute the murderers. We are hoping and praying that we will be able to construct the Chaney, Goodman and Schwerner Youth Center from fundraisers and private donations. We feel the time has come for us, as well of the rest of America, to honor the sacrifice and contribution of the men to the suffrage rights for all Americans. The youth of our parish have organized to plan and implement mission events that will impact our community. This youth center will enable us to continue Michael Schwerner's work in youth ministry. Our Trustees are engaged in providing community activities in support of our youth and the elderly. The new youth center will enable us to expand our ministries to other members of our community. Michael Schwerner told a local Rabbi in Meridian, "A Ku Klux can abuse me if that's his need, A rabbi can urge me to go to New York if that is his need. But my need is to try to help men in Mississippi help themselves. (Three Lives for Mississippi, p. 52)

In light of their contributions to the Civil Rights of all Americans, we ask your support in our effort to construct the Chaney, Goodman and Schwerner Youth Center in their honor. Please contact Rev. Michelle Dailey if you feel led to help our efforts. Thank you!

Today was truly a blessing at our Rainbow Tea. Each group of ladies was assigned a color and they exceeded expectations. Thanks to everyone who participated in or donated to this event. (How I didn’t get a picture of my own table). Green was well represented.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to show support, raise awareness, and advocate for acceptance and understanding. You can take part by wearing green, checking in with yourself or someone you care about, and recognizing the importance of emotional well-being.

Stigma and misconceptions still surround many aspects of mental health and seeking support. This can include hesitation around getting help, talking openly, or even acknowledging its importance.

Reaching out for support during difficult times does not make you weak or wrong. It shows strength, honesty, and resilience. Mental health is more than a label or a diagnosis. It is an opportunity for growth, hope, and healing. 💚🧠✨

If you, or someone you know, is experiencing a mental health crisis, please call 988 or Weems' 24/7 crisis line at 1-800-803-0245
