In the Late 1980’s Minister Steven Wilson Sr. received Christ as His Lord and Savior and became a full and very active member of the New Jerusalem Pentecostal Church under the Leadership of Pastor Ted C. It was during this awesome experience that Minster Wilson developed a hunger for the Word of God and became an excellent student of the Bible. He could always be found in Sunday school and Bible s

tudy. This led to him becoming a unique and awesome teacher of God’s Word. He was ordained a Deacon in 1989 and continued to serve the ministry through evangelism, teaching Sunday school and Bible study and on several occasions was asked to preach. Because of the divine presence of God and the anointing on his life he was able to hear God’s small, still voice inviting him to a higher calling.

For the despondent, every day brings
trouble; for the happy heart,
life is a continual feast. - Proverbs 15:15

This proverb seems to say that we can choose how we feel about life.

We can choose to be despondent, or we can choose to live with a happy heart.

How can that be a choice? Paul gives us a clue:
“Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable.

Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. . . . Then the God of peace will be with you" (Philippians 4:8-9, emphasis added).

It’s been proven that what we think has a huge effect on what we feel.

God made us and knows we work that way, so he inspired Paul to remind us to pay attention to what we are telling ourselves.

One of God’s gifts to you is the ability to choose the focus of your thoughts.

And choosing rather than just reacting is key to taking back your life.

Today, when you get a despondent thought, reject it. Argue against it. Remind yourself that you are choosing a happy heart.

That may feel phony at first, but it’s really not. It’s choosing to focus on the truth—which is that God is bigger and more wonderful than any of our day-to-day feelings.

Ask Yourself
Why do you think so many people, perhaps including yourself, choose to focus on negative thoughts that leave them despondent?

Are there times when it’s appropriate to feel sad or down? How can you respond to your feelings honestly while still focusing on positive truth?

Ask God
Lord, I want to live with a happy heart. Help me to focus my mind on what is beautiful and good—especially you.

Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood,

He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death,
that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bo***ge.

Hebrews 2:14–15

Because you are a believer in Jesus, the curse of the law and its ministry of death and condemnation no longer have a hold over you!

His Word victoriously proclaims that “Christ purchased our freedom [redeeming us] from the curse (doom) of the Law [and its condemnation] by [Himself] becoming a curse for us,

for it is written [in the Scriptures], Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree (is crucified)” (Gal. 3:13 AMP). You have been redeemed!

Do you know what the mother of all fears is? Today’s scripture shows us that it is the fear of death.

Why do believers come under the fear of death when they’ve been forgiven, justified, and redeemed?

It’s simple: when believers don’t believe that all their sins have been punished and forgiven through the death of Jesus Christ at the cross,

their consciences are never at rest.

As a result, the wages of sin, which is death, continues to oppress them and keep them under bo***ge.

But here’s the good news:

God’s Word tells us that through His death, our Lord broke the power of death the devil had over us. Why did He do all this?

To “release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bo***ge.”

Clearly, our Lord Jesus wants us free from the fear of death and from any bo***ge.

Read Hebrews 2:15 again and you’ll see that the fear of death leads to other fears and bo***ges—“those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bo***ge.”

Scripture Reading — Isaiah 40:8; Psalm 19:7-11
The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” — Isaiah 40:8

The prophet Isaiah contrasts the briefness of human life with the eternity of the Word of God.

We are born, grow, mature, and die, but the Word of God remains forever.

We come and go from history, but the Word of God remains alive, sovereign, and victorious from generation to generation.

Many have tried to discredit the Word of God, but its truths endure.

Many unbelievers and skeptics have tried to stand against the credibility of Scripture, shouting with arrogance and claiming it is false, but the Word of God is the anvil that has broken their hammer every time.
The Word of God has overcome all the fires of intolerance and remained victorious.

It is inspired, inerrant, infallible, and sufficient.

It does not need to be updated or redefined.

Heaven and earth will pass away, but the Word of God will not pass away (see Luke 21:33 It is the truth.

It is the sword of the Spirit. It is a lamp to our feet and It is more precious than much refined gold and sweeter than honey.

The Word of God restores the soul, enlightens the eyes, gladdens the heart, and gives wisdom to the simple.

It is living and active. It is powerful. God’s Word endures forever!

Lord God, remind us that although our lives fade, your Word stands forever. Plant your eternal truth in our hearts.

May your Word guide our steps, strengthen our faith, silence our doubts, and anchor us in your unchanging victory. Amen.

Hope!

In 2 Chronicles 20:3–4, we see that when faced with what appeared to be certain destruction, King Jehoshaphat set himself to seek the Lord.

Today’s scripture is part of his prayer.

Note that instead of rehashing his fears to the Lord and lamenting about how overpowered by their enemies their small tribe was,

Jehoshaphat centered his prayer and thoughts on just how big and powerful his God truly is.

He proclaimed boldly that “no one is able to withstand” the Lord—no one! In a hopeless situation, he hoped in the Lord.

I call that Bible hope! Hope is a beautiful word in the Bible.

Hope in the New Testament is the Greek word elpis, which is defined as a “favorable and confident expectation” or “the happy anticipation of good.”

This means that when you hope in the Lord, there is a joy in your countenance (simply put, a smile on your face).

There is a confident assurance in your heart that, bleak as the circumstances appear to be, it’s not over yet.

Unfortunately, the word “hope” as used in our modern vernacular is completely different and

sometimes even antithetical to the way the Bible defines it.

When we say things such as, “I hope that I will get the job,” our use of the word connotes uncertainty, doubt, and ambivalence.

The Word of God declares that “this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us” (Rom. 5:5 NLT).

We can have true hope—a certain, joyful, confident expectation of good—when we rightly believe how dearly God loves us!

There is a direct and proportionate correlation between hope and rightly believing in God’s love for you.
Hope springs in your heart when you believe that God loves you.

No matter how adverse your circumstances may seem today, put your trust in the Lord.

Beleve that God is working behind the scenes on your behalf, and that He is turning the situation around for your good (Rom. 8:28).

His abundant heavenly
resources, His power, His

healing, His restoration, His deliverance, His provision, His favor, His help, His comfort, and His love are with you and on your side,

waiting to be unleashed upon you.

The Lord your God will open up the windows of heaven over your life and pour out for you such a blessing that there won’t be room enough to receive it!

When our entire hope and trust is in Him, we can count on His promises toward us.

This hope never disappoints, which means that your greatest victories are ahead of you!

Only One Truth
By Kent Van Til — Sunday, May 17, 2026

Scripture Reading — John 14:1-14

“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 14:6

Notice that in this passage Jesus does not just say he knows the truth or can teach the truth. He says, “I am the truth.”

This means that to know Jesus is to know the truth.

The truth is that there is one God, who can be found only through Jesus Christ.

The truth is that the God who created the world and filled it with good things is the same God who came to give us salvation and new life.

We are made in the image of the one true God, and we find our true selves when we receive full life in him.

The counterpoint of Jesus’ statement here is that all other claims to truth are false, including all the other “isms” of the world: consumerism, communism, capitalism,
hedonism, nationalism, and so on.

If you think that the truth is that we need to make more money, or have more fun, or have your political party succeed, you are telling yourself a lie. Only Jesus is the truth.

All truths eventually arrive at Jesus.

Some brilliant scientists and philosophers have accepted Jesus because he has greeted them at the end of their investigations.

Some addicts have received Jesus because they have discovered that only he can save them from themselves

Jesus is the truth. Let’s show it, tell it, and live it today.

Lord and God, help us to seek your truth and to ignore all the false claims that tempt us in our lives.

May we be so true to you that others see it and want it too. Amen.

And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak.

2 Corinthians 4:13

Beloved, it is not enough for you to merely know the Word in your heart.

You must say it. That’s when latent power becomes actual power.

When our Lord Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He did not merely think about Scripture. He spoke it out loud.

You can memorize thousands of scriptures but if you don’t learn to say, “It is written,” and release the Word, there will be no power.

God’s power is there, but it is all lying dormant inside you.

But when you speak it out, God’s power is unleashed.

When you release God’s Word through your mouth, you release God’s power into your situation. Amen!

We are in a war, my friend, and the only way to defeat fear is to speak the Word of God to whatever fear you have by saying, “It is written.”

It is written—“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Tim. 1:7).

I want you to memorize that. It’s a powerful verse of Scripture.

This is the truth: God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

If the devil wants a fight, give him one!

Give him the sword of the Spirit and he will get the point every time.

There are many scriptures you can memorize. Write down the scriptures that cover the areas of your need and arm yourself with them!

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow.

Hebrews 4:12

The enemy knows how potent the Word of God is. Do you?

The word used for saved in the original Greek is the word sozo, which means “to save one from injury or peril;

to save a suffering one from perishing, for example, one suffering from disease; to make well, heal, restore to health.”

While the healing you are believing for may not be immediate, believe that it is on its way.

If you have been waiting for a while for your healing and you are feeling discouraged, let this promise from God strengthen you:

“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth,

and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall

My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”

—Isaiah 55:10–11
God’s Word of healing is so powerful that it will not return to Him void, but it shall accomplish His purpose.

Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.’”

Matthew 4:10

We can’t stop the enemy from attacking our minds, but we can surely defend ourselves with the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (Eph. 6:17).

God’s Word is infallible, unshakable, and everlasting (Isa. 40:8, 1 Pet. 1:25).

Our Lord Jesus Himself showed us what to do when we are under attack by the devil.

Three times He was tempted by Satan in the wilderness. Each time, His response was the same—He quoted the written Word of God. Against each attack, His response was to say, “It is written” (Matt. 4:1–11).

I know of believers who say, “God spoke to me and told me that He will do that for me.” I want to encourage you not to go by what you think the Lord said to you.

You cannot fight the devil by saying, “God spoke to me,” apart from the written Word.

In the first temptation, the devil challenged our Lord Jesus to prove His identity, saying, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread” (Matt. 4:3).

Don’t you think it is interesting that our Lord did not rely on what His Father had audibly spoken over Him at the River Jordan?

A voice had come from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matt. 3:17).

Yet, the Lord did not point Satan to the spoken word of God.

Over and over again, He declared, “It is written.”

Now, if the Son of God used “it is written” to defeat the devil, how much more you and I need to.

When fear grips your heart or evil thoughts plague your mind, quote His written Word!

When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said. - John 2:22

There was a great Easter story told by Dr. George Sweeting regarding an incident in the early 1920s.

Communist leader Nikolai Bukharin was sent from Moscow to Kiev to address an anti-God rally.

For an hour he abused and ridiculed the Christian faith until it seemed as if the whole structure of belief was in ruins.

Then questions were invited. An Eastern Orthodox priest rose and asked to speak.

He turned, faced the people, and gave the Easter greeting, 'He is risen!' Instantly the assembly rose to its feet and the reply came back loud and clear, 'He is risen indeed!'

Aren't those just the best words you could ever hear?

News, movies, books, and people of influence may attempt to discredit Christianity, but they'll never thwart the truth, He is risen indeed!

What does Christ's resurrection mean for you?

I believe in the sun even when it is not shining. I believe in love even when not feeling it. I believe in God even when He is silent. - Anonymous

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, 'Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree’), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Galatians 3:13–14

Isn't it interesting that the Lord is very specific in mentioning that Christ became a curse for us on the cross, so that we can experience and enjoy the blessing of Abraham?

Romans 4:13—“For the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.”

In the original Greek text, the word “world” here is kosmos. Its meaning includes, “the whole circle of earthly goods, endowments, riches, advantages, pleasures.”

In Christ, you are an heir of the world—its goods, its endowments, its riches, its advantages, and its pleasures.
