Update on Lantern Tower Windows from Mark Sullivan, Sexton:
St. Timothy’s Lantern Tower has three sets of exquisite stained glass arched windows, facing South, West, and North. Many years ago these three sets were covered with quarter inch plexiglass and supporting frames to protect and insulate them. Over the years the plexiglass clouded to the point where light entered the church but the stained glass became shrouded from outside visibility. Eventually some sections cracked and the frames failed. Discussions about a remedy swirled for a few years, mostly around finding a contractor capable of doing the artful work necessary to replace the covers in a manner that enhanced the beauty of the underlying stained glass.
Good news arrived this April as Tim Kovacs General Contracting set to work on the project with a crew of six very skilled carpenters, painters, and riggers, completing the work on April 25. Not only are the windows protected from the elements, but the stunning beauty of the stained glass shines out once again for all to see. Before and after photographs tell the tale. Pictured is the South elevation, one showing the condition as work began. The other two, the completed restoration.
