🧩Join IJS for our monthly session of Shalem (“Whole”), an inclusive affinity space for people living with disabilities and/or chronic illness and pain. Led by Shelton Sullivan this month, we’ll gather in caring community for mindful Jewish practice - exploring ways to nurture healing, affirm our wholeness, and cultivate inner resilience.
🌿Shelton Sullivan is a Polio Survivor currently living with Post-Polio Syndrome. As a person living with a disability, it has given him a unique perspective on the role spirituality and prayer plays in healing and well being. This perspective has become a deep well from which to draw on in his daily interactions with others, particularly with persons who represent or are members of marginalized communities. This perspective has fostered a deeper awareness of the presence of Hashem in the heretofore seemingly mundane aspects of daily life. This perspective and awareness has caused him to marvel and be in awe of the words and call to action of the prophet Micah: "To do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God." (Micah 6:8)
Shelton has been a participant in various IJS programs and courses since the Spring of 2021, including the Daily Meditation Sit, the Gift of Awareness, Awareness in Action I & II, Yesod: Foundations for Deepening Jewish Mindfulness Practice, and Tiferet: Jewish Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Training. In 2024, he was certified to facilitate Jewish mindfulness groups and other Jewish mindfulness offerings.
Shelton grew up in Los Angeles, California and graduated from Occidental College and Antioch Law School. He is married to La'Tonya Sullivan and together they are the proud parents of two adult children, Callie & Jaya. Shelton is an eclectic music listener, avid traveler, and lover of poetry.
