Calling all nature lovers for our next Meet & Geek!🌻

Join us on Wednesday, June 10, to discover how people cultivated and used plants in the early years of Philadelphia's founding!

You'll hear from members of the newly launched Colonial Garden Consortium, a group of sites across Philadelphia with vibrant green spaces and ties to the city's colonial and early American history. Several Consortium partners, including Grumblethorpe, Powel House, Bartram's Garden, and The Woodlands, will speak and share fascinating objects from their sites.

In advance of Memorial Day, the Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania placed flags on military graves at The Woodlands. Thank you, volunteers!

WEEKEND REMINDERS:
• The Office and Stable Restrooms will be closed starting Friday afternoon until Tuesday, 5/26
• No open flames are allowed on site, including fireworks and grilling
• Groups of 10+ visitors must have prior approval before gathering
• Please be respectful when visiting — many visitors will be honoring loved ones over Memorial Day Weekend

Thank you for following The Woodlands' rules and safety guidelines whenever you visit! The grounds will remain open from dawn until dusk all weekend. Make your way out of the front gates when you notice the sun beginning to set.

Whether you’re exploring our 54 acres, attending a public program, or a guest at an event, The Woodlands aims to create an accessible and welcoming space. Projects are underway to make this historic landmark site more accessible to all visitors, including an Accessibility Survey hosted by our partners at Art-Reach, a non-profit organization that connects the disability community with the cultural arts.

Art-Reach is providing comprehensive accessibility plans to 76 cultural organizations in and around the Philadelphia area, helping to ensure that cultural organizations are inclusive, safe, and welcoming spaces for visitors with disabilities.

🌱🌹🥀 Whether Mother’s Day is a time of celebrating, mourning, or honoring the maternal figures in your life, the 54 acres of The Woodlands can provide a space for those feelings to flourish. The Woodlands is open daily from dawn until dusk, including this Sunday, May 10.

Deer Visitors!
Please keep your distance from animal friends at The Woodlands, like these White-tailed deer who have been frequently seen on site. Remember they are wild and human interaction can cause habituation (removing their natural fear of humans). Keep your dogs leashed at all times to help protect the fauna that live here and pass through. 🦌💗

The fest will now take place on the predetermined rain date, Sunday, April 26. Changes to event dates are not made lightly and are made with the consideration of attendees, vendors, performers, and staff in mind.

🌎 Happy Earth Day from The Woodlands!

In honor of , we planted three trees from Tree Philly, who had this to share: "These trees were grown from seed collected through a collaborative project with U.S. Forest Service researchers and urban forest managers through the Northeastern Silviculture Network. The group focused on climate vulnerability, oak adaptation, and sharing management strategies for forests in cities across the northeastern U.S. In Fall 2022, the network collected acorns and grew out seedlings at the Forest Service facility in Kentucky. Those seedlings were grown out to plant-able container trees by our nursery partner, the Tree Authority. "

Assisting with our Earth Day planting is Xia Frazier of Green City Works (). Xia's role at The Woodlands, funded by a 2026 Tree Forward grant, includes helping to tend 30 newly planted trees (and planting more!) The Woodlands is one of 10 organizations across Philadelphia awarded funds by the Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC). The 2026 Tree Forward initiative is a grant program for community-based organizations to carry out projects that advance the Philly Tree Plan in ways that reflect each neighborhood’s unique needs.
