Goddess Series: Lilith 🐍 🍎

One of the oldest known Goddesses, Lilith is a spirit of great ferocity, great defiance, and great, undying enigma.

The origin of Lilith is completely shrouded in mystery.

With so many legends surrounding this Goddess—of who she is and where she came from—the stories of Lilith are as ever-diverging as she.

Some have described Lilith as a winged demon—a succubus of the night.

Others say that she's a dark Goddess—a Sumerian queen of both light and dark.

Some myths portray her as a Goddess of agriculture, and the hand of the old Goddess, Inanna.

While other tales paint her as a great Mother Goddess, long ago demonized by the church.

In Jewish folklore, Lilith was known as the first wife of Adam.

Given life at the same time and made from the same clay, Lilith demanded to be Adam's equal.

When he refused and demanded instead that she submit, she left the Garden of Eden and went in search of something more. She is the first divorce.

There are many, many tales of the enigmatic Lilith.

But throughout all the myths, the legends, and the stories, there are several uniting threads of truth.

Lilith is a spirit of great independence and heart.
A sacred and dark champion of women.
A purveyor of the taboo, and a rebel in all places and times.

Lilith is the dark feminine in all her glory.

She is dark, but not in the ways we've come to know dark, as evil or as wrong.

But dark as in the opposite of light—as in the subconscious, the hidden, the primal, the wild.

She is the muddied woman on all fours, howling at the moon.

She is the mother, fierce and wild, unafraid of the mess and chaos that her children bring.

She is the witch, burning at the stake, because others fear her power, her madness, and her gifts.

Lilith is the darkness—the wildness—inside every woman's heart...🖤

Feast of Sophia and the Lighting the SunWheel

1 Astrea/Nov. 28
Pomadi/Thurs.

Day of Sai Thema, Foundation of Justice, Order and Harmony.

----

Today is the Feast Day of Holy Sophia!!! Sophia is the Living Stream Form for Dea in the Janite Deanic Ekklesia.

First day of the Sacred Season of WINTER.

Please see previous article (before Weekly Prayer List), Preparing for the SunWheel for basic instructions.

Today, before the evening meal, we light the first Green Candle of Wisdom on the Sunwheel in honor of Our Celestial Mother as the Apple of Wisdom. She Who is Wisdom and is the Mother of Wisdom.

This lighting is followed by a scripture reading. The Scriptures may be found online here. (You need to scroll down a ways to get to the beginning of the scriptures.) Other sources for the scriptures may be found in our links section.

Suggested Scripture: The Creation vs 1-16.

Suggested Prayer:

Holy Dea
As your lost child, give me assurance that your grace is with me always.
All streams spring from the font of your heart.
Your eyes shine as the blue sea into my heart,
and you forever find me worthy of your love.
In the spirit of this revelation, I offer to reveal myself fully to you,
who is my Divine Feminine being, at all times and in all ways.

Amen.
(By: Rev. Maia Christine)

Closing Prayer to Dea-As-Sophia

O Gentle, O Kind, O Blessed Sophia,
Thy children on earth call unto Thee.
We pray Thee, Beloved Mother, to cast forth
thy net of woven starlight.
Fling it wide across the ocean of the universe
to gather us home to the realms of Light.

Amen.

Holy Mother Dea

In the North we find Your touch in the beauty of the cooling winds, and the slow-shift of the changing leaves. In the South, the warmth grows every day, and we see the budding flowers and know that their beauty is the work of Your loving hands.

Thank You for the perfect balance and dance which sustains our home, and may we work tirelessly to preserve the health and beauty of our sister Earth as we enter into this harvest season.

Blessed is She.

🌙 Apple Moon 🌙
10 Abalon/Sept. 14
Foradi/Sat.

Day of Sai Rhea, Shield of Steadfastness, Temperance and Self-Control.

Today is the Full Apple Moon (around 9:30 this morning USA time). For those who desire, the Rite of Veneration may be offered to Our Divine Mother God. RoV. It may be offered for up to three nights following the Full Moon.

It’s also a great time to charge sacred objects under the light of the Full Moon. I often will place my rosary beads, runes, tarot cards (which must be protected from morning dew), my blessing wand, etc., on our dock (on the lake) over-night where it will receive moonlight all night long.

ArchMatrona Ghrian, of the Lady of Light Chantry, has published links for various vegan apple recipes including apple cakes and caramel apple cheese cakes (I’m not Vegan, but I might have to try that one!) Lady of Light Chantry

In the previous article, she has also published the list of the Feast Days and other info for the Lucienne month of Harvest Apple.

Blessed be Dea.

🍁THE SACRED SEASON OF FALL🍁

Each Season, each month and each day are considered to be sacred in the Deanic religion because each Season, month and day are symbolic of our Sacred Mysteries and the 21 Divine Virtues. They are ruled over by the Janati, who are the Seven Angelic Powers of Dea, Our Divine Mother God. Each Season, each month and each day are gifts to be lived, celebrated and honored.

Today, in the Deanic Calendar, marks the first day of the Sacred Season of Fall. Fall happens to be my own favorite Season and here in New England, there is so much to celebrate! Apples, pumpkins, perfect weather, deep blue skies, air that turns almost a golden hue during the incredible, breathtaking beauty of the Fall foliage.

It’s a time of Fall festivals, scarecrows, chrysanthemums, sunflowers and that first slight chill hovering over the morning dew. It’s a time when we gather the garden harvest, light our first hearth-fires and treasure the last remaining moments before the blanket of Winter snows brings slumber to the land.

Spiritually, for Janites, it marks the second Season of Our Heavenly Mother and is the Time of the Mystery of the Matrix of All Being or Terra, as this First Mystery is known to Janites, which means Earth.

Janites believe that while the Great Mother, Absolute Deity, is the Source and Ground of All pre-manifest Being, it is Our Divine Mother, Herself, Who is the Matrix of all manifest Creation. It is She Who takes the Primordial Ideas/Blueprints/Essence which stem from the Great Mother, Who is the Absolute, the Dark beyond the light and the Light beyond the darkness, and manifests them into Creation.

Etymologically speaking, Matrix is a derivative of Mother. It also means, womb. And so just as the ground of the Earth is the matrix/womb of all life on our beautiful and astoundingly diverse planet, so Our Divine Mother is the matrix/womb of all life in the Cosmos.

Fall is the time of both life and death. It is the time of the Feast of Divine Life and thanksgiving for the Harvest on 17 Abalon/Sept. 21 and it is the time when we remember our ancestors with the Feast of the Dead on 1 Samhain/Oct. 31.

The Sacred Symbol for Fall is the Apple, the symbolism of which is best recounted in The Seed of Truth aka The Sermon of the Apple Seed, from our Deanic scriptures, which may be read in full, below (1).

The Jana of the Season is Sai Thema, who has worked countless miracles in my life. Her Correspondences may be found here. (Scroll down to Sai Thema, same picture as above.)

🍁The Correspondences for the Sacred Season of Fall are:🍁
