When It's Your Turn

Joshua 1:1-9 (NIV)
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." — Joshua 1:9
There comes a moment in every believer's life when God calls them to step into a new season, responsibility, or assignment. Just as Joshua was chosen to lead Israel after Moses, God often calls us to move forward when circumstances seem overwhelming and uncertainty fills the path ahead.
The message reminds us that God prepares us before He positions us. Joshua was not a last-minute choice; he had been walking beside Moses, learning, growing, and being shaped for leadership long before his moment arrived. Likewise, God has been preparing us for the assignments we face today.
When it's your turn, there will often be obstacles standing between you and God's promises. The Jordan River stood before Joshua and the Israelites, but God used the challenge as part of the process. We cannot always avoid the difficult seasons, because God often develops strength, faith, and perseverance through them.
The sermon emphasizes three powerful truths:
1. God Picked and Prepared You
Before Joshua ever led the people, God had already chosen and trained him. Your current assignment is not a surprise to God. He has equipped you with everything necessary for the journey ahead.
2. God's Promises Are Greater Than Your Obstacles
The promise of the Promised Land did not remove the Jordan River. Faith requires moving forward even when challenges stand in the way. What God has promised, He will bring to pass.
3. Courage Comes From God's Presence
Three times God tells Joshua to be strong and courageous. The reason is simple: God promised to be with him. The same God who was with Moses would be with Joshua. Our confidence is not in our abilities but in God's presence.
When it is your turn to lead, serve, parent, minister, or step into a new season, remember that God has already gone before you. What feels impossible today becomes possible when God is guiding your path.
