Prayer for Peace
By Rev Timothy Warren
Almighty God, in you we live and have our being. From you comes our life, and to you we return when we leave this world. You have bestowed upon us free will; may we use that free will to be agents of peace in a world that is being torn apart by war, sectarian violence, oppression, and the marginalization of those who are powerless and disenfranchised.
May your people of all faith traditions come together united in one common purpose - to uphold the dignity of every man, woman, and child, especially those whom Christ called “the least of these”. Let us strive to dedicate our lives to promoting peace, offering ourselves as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable to God.
Open our ears to the voices of children who cry for their dead fathers and mothers lost to violence, for parents who mourn over the cold bodies of their sons and daughters, to the never ceasing anguish of those who struggle to survive while the wealthy grow fat from the sweat of laborers living in poverty.
Open our eyes to injustice, corruption, hypocrisy, oppression, poverty, violence, and indifference. Convict us of our own complicity and hypocrisy; stir up within us a desire and commitment to challenge the status quo, to cast down the mighty from their thrones and lift up the lowly, and to send the rich away empty and fill the poor with good things.
May your peace, which passes all understanding, keep our hearts and minds secure in the knowledge of your love for all humanity. Let our commitment to serve you be strengthened, and our resolve to be agents of peace be unwavering.
Amen
