I highly recommend putting John Stott sermons from this podcast at the top of your queue. He was an amazing man of God and expositor of God’s word. These are the kind of sermons where you realize that God’s word is so interesting that you just need to understand you don’t need to be entertained when hearing a sermon.

If anybody wants to help support the new church plant (Hope of Nations Anglican Church) here is our super simple Giving Page. We are aspiring to use a majority of what is given for hospitality and outreach to the needy and those who need to hear the gospel. Very modest at this point!

We aspire to use as much of what is given to Hope of Nations for meeting real needs of real people…both physical and spiritual. “let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” -1 John 3:18 “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not relucta...

Mark 2: 15-17 today we have the same account in Matthew 9 and Luke 5...so a pretty universally emphasized text! "Those who are well have no need for a physician" Jesus says. Its not weird to see a doctor near sick people or a mechanic messing with a broken old car or a roofer on a roof with problems. Jesus hangs with sinners...sinners who want to be healed. He's not a doctor handing out placebos or a mechanic giving phony inspection stickers or a roofer sticking bubble gum over holes in the roof. Lets commune with our Savior (our Doctor) by recognizing our continued need for healing and repair!

Psalm 75 sets up the contrast of the Lord who shakes the earth and yet also holds it in place with the impotence of the wicked who "lift up a horn" in stupid pride. The Psalm starts off with the write orientation of giving thanks to God. Giving thanks seems so basic and yet its a powerful and fundamental reallignment towards reality...the reality that knows that God is the one who lifts up and brings down. We will not look to to the east or the west or the mountains or the forrest for help...we look to God. Amen?

On this Maundy Thursday we slow down before this awe inspiring truth...the God of the universe has come to clean what is nasty and smelly from us. Not with a distant dismissal or by ignoring but by stripping himself, taking to his knees at our feet, and washing them clean. Look at the profound omniscient narration of vs 3. He "knew that the Father had put all things under his power" and this utter confidence led not to a demand to be served but a freedom TO serve. So much of what is taught by the apostles in the epistles is helping us see that we too are rich with an inheritance that is imperishable and reserved for us. What if we were 10% more aware of our wealth and position in Christ? How much more would we be able to do what Jesus did and commands us to do...vs. 15 "I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you." What do you say?

Psalm 68 today. Let the imagery sink in. The wispy nothingness of the wicked ("smoke" and melted "wax") while God is providing "out of his abundance" to the poor. The kings are set aside and throngs of women are taking plunder and proclaiming his victory. The imagery of his people being like a sheep resting in its pen (vs. 13) may not be immediately attractive to the modern reader but think again of the safety and rest that is implied. What else do you see ?
