🌿DESCENT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.
HOLY PENTECOST🌿

“We have seen the true Light, we have received the heavenly Spirit, we have found the true Faith, worshipping the undivided Trinity, for the Trinity has saved us.”

The Descent of the Holy Spirit held great significance for the Apostles and the first Christians, and it continues to hold the same significance for the entire Church of Christ today. Saint John Chrysostom teaches that through the Holy Spirit we have received freedom, adoption as children of God, and the grace-filled gifts with which the Church is adorned. In the hymns of Pentecost we sing: “The Holy Spirit provides all things… He has made theologians of fishermen and unites the whole assembly of the Church.”

Saint Basil the Great teaches that through the Holy Spirit mankind returns to God, becomes a partaker of the grace of Christ, and a child of Light. Through Him, the Apostles received the gift of tongues, understanding of the Holy Scriptures, and the courage to preach the Gospel to all nations.

Concerning the fruits of the Holy Spirit, the Holy Apostle Paul says: “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Gal. 5:22–23). This same Holy Spirit descended upon us in the Mystery of Chrismation, making us temples of God and calling us to glorify Him by our lives.

Last week Bishop Bohdan issued our mission a new antimension (the cloth upon which we celebrate the Holy Mysteries) and sewed into a pocket of that antimension is a relic of this same St. Josaphat.

This Sunday there will be an opportunity to venerate St. Josaphat's relic after Liturgy.
