Maundy Thursday service the people in the sanctuary noticed this. The cross is not illuminated by any artificial light. God sent sunshine through the window, at just right angle to illuminate the cross for us. I believe it was a reminder to us that he is with us throughout this entire experience of life. He wanted us to remember that his light shines even in the darkest of hours which is what Jesus was facing. I hope that this reminder will call you to to celebrate Easter in a way of special joy this year. I hope to see you in worship on Sunday. Sunrise service 7 AM at Grove Street: Easter worship at 9:30 a.m. at Grove Street; edit Hedrick Chapel Easter worship is at 11 AM

Last night the PHS girls Basketball Ball team paid honor to the men and women of our nations armed forces, past and present, who have a served to keep our nation free. I am so proud of their effort to honor the sacrifices these heroes have made throughout the years. We’d all do well in this day and age to do likewise. God bless our nation and those who protect our freedoms.

A belated Happy New Year to all of you who are reading this post.

I hope that all of you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year’s celebration with family and friends.
This is the time when people make resolutions to bring about changes in their lives. Maybe you’ve already done that (and broken them as well - or maybe not). I have one to challenge you with. Why not resolve to become a part of a worshipping congregation in 2023? Be a part of worship each week can deepen a persons personal walk with Christ; find a relationship with others who are committed to being disciples of Jesus Christ and work to make a difference in your community by helping others who are in need. I’d like to invite you to consider joining either Grove Street (9:30 am) or Hedrick Chapel (11:00 am) for worship. This Sunday we will be celebrating Epiphany Sunday (the day that historically we recall the Wisemen arriving to greet Jesus with their gifts or God, Frankincense and Myrrh. We will do so with a “Blessing of the Toys” where each young person with us is invited to bring one of their Christmas gifts and receive a blessing. It is always a fun and meaningful time with our young people.
I hope you will consider becoming a regular attender at worship in 2023, whether you are already a part of our congregation or someone who wants to find a church home.

Today is All Saints Day, the day in which we are to think about those people that we have known who have lived an exemplary life as a disciple of Christ, and impacted the world, and the lives of others because of their faith.

Each of us probably have had some saints or saints in our lives that guided us to the place that we are right now. I know in my life I can count several saints that have impacted who I am, and what I do and believe.

I also challenge you to become a saint in your own life for someone in order to impact in a positive way on both who they are and the faith that they live by.

After a two-year hiatus, due to a fire and Covid, the Burlington, United Methodist, Family Services Apple Harvest Festival is going on despite the remnants of hurricane Ian. All week long volunteers from across West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland and other areas have peeled, quartered and cooked apple to make delicious apple butter. Camaraderie is a special thing here at Burlington Apple Harvest Festival. People keep coming back year after year after year, joining with brothers and sisters in Christ to help in this very worthwhile project.

Today was a special day in my life and the life of the Grove Street Church. Five youth and one adult were baptized, and one other student reaffirmed the vows made on her behalf be her parents when she was baptized an as infant, in the waters of the South Branch of the Potomac River at Welton Park. The UM Church does not believe in the need to re-baptize those who have been baptized as a infant, child or youth/adult. Baptism is a gift from God and marks the person as a disciple of Jesus Christ. We recognize baptism from other Christian Churches as valid for membership in the church.

Those who were baptized, or reaffirmed their baptism pledged their faith in Jesus Christmas Lord and Savior, and pledged their willingness to serve as his disciples all the days of their lives. As a concluding part of the service they also affirmed their desire, to be a part of the UM Church and uphold it with their, prayer, present, gifts, service and witness. Leading others to make a decision to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior and to be a disciple of Christ all the days of their lives is one of the most sacred acts we can do as clergy. I celebrate this moment and ask that God guide, guard and protect these new disciples of his son, Jesus Christ.

On Thursday, approximately 70 people, children, youth an adults, gathered at the Grant County Courthouse at noon to celebrate National Day of Prayer. National Day of Prayer was started by President Truman in 1952, and ever since that day Americans have gathered each year to pray for our nation. We prayed for local, state, and national leaders; or schools and churches; our First Responders — Police, EMS and Fire; as well as our military men and women in unsettled times around the world. We prayed for and end to the violence that is plaguing our cities, and an end to the drug problem that is running rampant and destroying our families.

We should all be in prayer for our nation and our leaders at all levels, not just on NDP, but every day. Our nation is in a time of deep crisis which I believe can only be solved by the intervention of God through the Holy Spirits guidance in the lives of our leaders at all levels. We also need to pray that God leads all of in the ways we can be a part of keeping our nation strong and a beacon of freedom and liberty.
