Last night I was invited to City Hall for the reading of a proclamation announcing that September was Disaster Preparedness month. I was asked to attend for my work with one of The greatest organizations in the world. The Salvation Army. There were of course the city council, folks representing nonprofits, the state and the county. Some of us that had worked the fires of "17" and "18" taking care of the fleeing evacuees. Tom Jordan (kneeling with the Scouts) is our city disaster preparedness manager. Great guy. Working to keep us all in touch and working together to prepare instead of react. In "17" and "18" many of us were huddled in a small office at the police station making lists of supplies, locations that we could bring to the problem. We did good. For now on we will do GREAT. Everyone's aware of what's going on to the families and seniors that live in Little Woods Mobil Park and Youngstown. If you don't your in for an eye opener. The parks have been bought up by developers and they are forcing the residents out of the parks by trying to increase the rent so high it is unaffordable. In the case of Little Woods Park off of Lakeville they are taking away amenities like parking. Yes they fenced off the back of the park where there where numbered parking spaces for each unit in the park. As a realtor I have helped a family move into a nice three bedroom two bath new unit in Little Woods. Now with the rest of the park they face hardships that go beyond parking issues. The city is holding its ground for the tenants. But I think there is so much more they could do. For one the fire Mashal should go over to Little Woods and make them take the fence down blocking the parking as a hazard to first responders access in an emergency. But the city isn't going that far in helping.
My eyes were opened to an entire industry of "flipping parks" I had no idea about. This excellent documentary that the link will take you to on YouTube will open your eyes to people that practice the Idolatry of money. An industry that puts greed before our fellow man. I don't think this town, our town, Petaluma, will let this happen. I pray we wont. Check out the video at:

May 10th was "STAMP OUT HUNGER" day. The Postal Carriers nationally picked up food left at the mail boxes by the community. The Petaluma Postal carriers brought into the Petaluma Salvation Army over three tons of food from the community.
"HATS OFF TO PETALUMA!!"
The event happens each year on the second Saturday in May. It is the largest food drive in the nation.
Many thanks to the volunteers that came out and sorted the can goods by category to help feed the over 350 families and seniors a week that receive a helping hand.
So next year when you see the postcard and all the signs around town. Remember to join in again to help stamp out hunger.
If your interested in lending a hand for a couple of hours a week, or be on the call list to help fill in, call Nora Talent at 707-338-3307.
A couple of hours a week and you can make a difference in a family in our community. Come join the team.
I'm glad I did.
