Today we celebrate the Feast of one of my favorite Saints: Saint Augustine.
St. Augustine is one of those saints in whom we recognise not only the triumph of grace but also the long and sometimes painful journey by which grace brings a human heart home.
His life does not begin with serenity. It begins with searching. It begins with desire, ambition, intellectual curiosity, disappointment, sin, argument, restlessness and longing.
Augustine is the saint of the restless heart, the man who searched through philosophies and pleasures, through intellectual systems and human relationships, until he discovered that beneath all his searching, a deeper search was already underway: God was searching for him.
Hoy celebramos la fiesta de uno de mis santos favoritos: San Agustín.
San Agustín es uno de esos santos en quienes reconocemos no solo el triunfo de la gracia, sino también el largo y a veces doloroso camino mediante el cual la gracia conduce el corazón humano de vuelta a casa.
Su vida no comienza con serenidad. Comienza con una búsqueda. Comienza con deseo, ambición, curiosidad intelectual, desilusión, pecado, discusiones, inquietud y anhelo.
Agustín es el santo del corazón inquieto, el hombre que buscó a través de filosofías y placeres, de sistemas intelectuales y relaciones humanas, hasta descubrir que, bajo toda su búsqueda, ya estaba en marcha una búsqueda más profunda: Dios lo estaba buscando a él.
