Metropolitan Maximos Endowment For Youth & Young Adult Ministries

Metropolitan Maximos Endowment For Youth & Young Adult Ministries Established to continue
Metropolitan Maximos’ love for the
Youth and Young Adult Ministries

"The Endowment's purpose is to provide special funding and support for youth ministries, programs, and services to care for the life and future of the Church." Metropolitan Maximos shepherded the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Pittsburgh for over 32 years. Of all his ministries, his work with youth and young adults held a special place in his heart. Whether at GOYA and JOY summer camp, GOYA athleti

c tournaments, OCF conferences and dinners, or young adult retreats, his Eminence could always be seen with a smile on his face and a story to share. In honor of our beloved "Metro Max," the Metropolitan Maximos Endowment will carry on His Eminence's support for our youth and young adults, a labor of love which hallmarked his ministry.

Today, across the Metropolis of Pittsburgh, parishes offered a memorial service for our beloved Hierarch who was the first Metropolitan of the Metropolis of Pittsburgh. At the first Greek Orthodox Monastery in the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, Saint Gregory Palamas in Hayesville, OH, where he is buried, his family and extended family gathered for the fifth anniversary of his falling asleep. Many stories were told about his life and his love for "his Children, his Students, his Clergy families, etc." We are sure that he was happy to share the day with Damon Halkias, whose 40-Day Memorial was today as well. Damon, who he appointed, was the first Diocese (now Metropolis) Youth Director in the Archdiocese.

Today is the fourth anniversary of the falling asleep of our beloved, former Metropolitan Maximos. In addition to his love of the Youth, the monastic communities held a special place in his heart. Saint Gregory Palamas Monastery where he is buried is the oldest Greek Orthodox Arrchdiocese of Anerica (GOArch). Fr Joseph, Fr Michael and the Brotherhood offered a Memorial for him this morning after Divine Liturgy.

Today is the 3-year memorial of the falling asleep of our beloved +Metropolitan Maximos. A guiding light for so many, he gave his heart and soul to the youth and young adults of our Metropolis during his 30+ years as our Metropolitan. I'm sure many of us can still hear the bells ringing at Camp Nazareth, announcing his arrival as we dropped whatever we were doing to run to him!

May his memory be eternal!

A Youth Endowment has been created in his memory to benefit the Youth and Young Adult ministries of our Metropolis. To offer a gift to continue his legacy, please visit https://www.pittsburgh.goarch.org/support

One year ago, +Metropolitan Maximos fell asleep in the Lord and His legacy lives on in many ways, including through this Endowment. Today at St Gregory Palamas, Geron Fr. Joseph Morris and Fr. Nicholas Halkias (son of Carol & Damon Halkias, the first "Diocese" of Pittsburgh Youth & Young Adult Director) offered prayers for His Eminence on a beautiful, sunny, crisp Autumn morning. Memory Eternal! (Picture - Peter Keares, St Paul, N Royalton)
