From the Preacher's desk
Many in the world celebrate the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord and savior this time of year. As Christians, we have a grateful celebration each day that Jesus bore my sins upon him at Calvary and daily intercedes for me. Each week we come together in the memorial feast commemorating his death, a sacred meal he began for us and ask us to do each week in remembrance of him, not for his good, but for ours, that we may never forget the blessings of forgiveness and the hope of glory. As Jesus was raised from the dead and ascended to the right hand of the Father, he paved the way for us. Jesus said to those who overcame (lived faithful even in the face of death) he would give them to sit down with him in His throne as he over came and sat down with his Father in his throne (Revelation 3:21).
Easter is a time of year, the spring everything is coming to or back to life again. This is the time that heaven chose for Jesus to be put to death and to be brought back to life again. As Christians, we are renewed in our faith each day. This time we have had over the past few weeks has be one of learning, learning the difference in our needs and our wants. This has been a good time to learn about priorities and what is truly valuable in life. It is first to have the peace of mind that only comes from making our lives right with God.
We too must go through the death, burial and resurrection in our lives if we are to be with Jesus in final glory. We die to sin in repentance (Romans 6:2), we were buried in baptism (6:4) and the new person was resurrected out of the water of baptism to walk in the new life (6:4b). May we put all our trust in God, not only in these troublesome times, but in times of peace and prosperity. This is the way we learn contentment, it is to serve God always and whatever else in life that God sends our way, be it much or little we will be content.
