After church this morning we went to the Senior Center. When we pulled up, there was one lonely car in the parking lot. They don’t get a lot of visitors. Breaks my heart.
Some of these folks attended church regularly all their lives, and suddenly, they aren’t able to any more. They miss it. We’ve always had a heart for these lovely people. Pastor Mark Anson visited a couple that are residents there that used to attend our church before Mark became pastor. Mark asked if they had a church service for them, they did not. So, as Mark always does, he asked if we could come once a month, sing a few songs, and give a short service.
We didn’t know how many would show up. There were 8 I think, along with 2 of our church members. Let me tell you, these folks were fired up!!! I think they knew the words to every old hymn we sang. They were engaged, having fun and so so happy to be in church!!! If only we all would be that excited about Sunday morning.
When we did this in Oklahoma, there was this little lady, Ms Francis, who insisted that Mark sing “I’ll Fly Away”, every single time. Today, Mark asked if there were any requests, and someone asked if he knew “I’ll Fly Away”. Oh how that made my heart smile!!! I’m sure Ms Francis has gone home to be with the Lord by now, but I certainly felt her sweet spirit with us today.
They said they loved the sing-a-long. As we were leaving, one of our new friends said if Mark didn’t come back next time, she was gonna tell on him!!!
They absolutely fell in love with my husband. The feeling is mutual.
Please remember your loved ones that are living in Senior Centers. They are lonely, sad, and maybe frightened. Some never have a visitor. They just want to know that they are not forgotten. They want to be loved. We can do that. &FeetMinistry
