In Matthew 26:26-30 (KJV), during the Passover meal, Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper by blessing and breaking bread ("Take, eat; this is my body") and sharing a cup of wine ("Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins").
Key Elements of the Lord's Supper in Matthew 26
Context: It was during the Last Supper/Passover meal.
The Bread: Jesus broke bread, saying, "Take, eat; this is my body".
The Cup: Jesus identified the wine as "my blood of the new testament [covenant], which is shed for many for the remission of sins".
Future Promise: Jesus stated he would not drink of the "fruit of the vine" again until he drinks it new with them in his Father's kingdom.
Conclusion: After singing a hymn, they went out to the mount of Olives.
This event signifies the formal establishment of a new covenant, replacing the old Passover sacrifice with the broken body and shed blood of Christ.
